Abstract

Saat ini mesin diesel banyak digunakan pada industri maupun otomotif, namun bahan bakar mesin diesel yakni solar terbuat dari minyak bumi yang tidak terbarukan. Saat ini penggunaan solar mulai digantikan oleh biodiesel yang terbuat dari minyak nabati sehingga diharapkan lebih ramah lingkungan. Biodiesel ini berbahan dasar minyak nabati dan diperoleh dengan adanya reaksi transesterifikasi dibantu dengan adanya pemanasan. Pada penelitian ini pemanasan dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode ohmic heating yang merupakan metode pemanasan dimana energi listrik dilewatkan melalui bahan, Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh suhu dan tegangan pada transesterifikasi minyak kelapa sawit menggunakan ohmic heating. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) dua faktorial dengan variasi suhu 40, 50, dan 60oC, serta variasi tegangan 25, 35, dan 45 V/cm. Hasil dari perlakuan dianalisa untuk mengetahui karakteristik biodiesel berupa densitas, viskositas, titik nyala, kadar air, dan rendemen. Hasil Penelitian menunjukkan perlakuan suhu dan tegangan tidak memberikan pengaruh nyata terhadap karakteristik biodiesel. Pada semua perlakuan, karakteristik biodiesel yang diperoleh telah memenuhi SNI dengan perlakuan terbaik didapat pada perlakuan suhu 50oC dan tegangan 35 V/cm. Perlakuan terbaik tersebut memiliki nilai densitas 861.50 kg/m3, viskositas 4.65 cSt, titik nyala 139oC, kadar air 0.007%, dan rendemen 91.71%.

English Abstract

As we know diesel engine are used in industrial and automotive machine which grows rapidly. Petroleum diesel is a global issue which petroleum oil has decreased. Now the use of petroleum diesel is being replaced with biodiesel which made from plant. Biodiesel is obtained from transesterification reaction, usually done in the presence of heating. In this research heating is done by using ohmic heating method. Ohmic heating is a method of heating where electrycal energy is passed through to the material. There is no need for heating media such as conventional method, this process generally has higher on efficiency. This research aims to determine the effect of temperature and voltage on transesterification of palm olein using ohmic heating. This research use two factorial randomized block design with three temperature variation i.e. 40, 50, and 60oC and three voltage variation i.e. 25, 35, and 45 V/cm. The result of the temperature and voltage variation were analyzed to determine the characteristic of biodiesel such as density, viscosity, flash point, water content, and yield. The result of this research showed that the temperature and voltage did not give any significant effect to the biodiesel characteristic. In all treatments the characteristic of ohmic heating biodiesel have met the Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI) with the best treatment of 50oC and 35 V/cm. The best treatment has density value 861,50 kg/m3, viscosity 4.65 cSt, flash point 139oC, water content 0.007, and 91.71% of yield.
