Abstract

Elektroplating adalah salah satu teknik pelapisan yang masih dikembangkan hingga sekarang. Fungsi dari elektroplating ini sendiri terutama adalah untuk menaikan karateristik material dan anti korosi. Salah satu aplikasi lain nya jika menggunakan pelapis nikel adalah menaikan ketahanan panas, yang dimanfaatkan peneliti untuk meneliti thermal shock resistance pada baja karbon rendah yang di plating. Pada Penelitian ini peneliti menggunakan baja karbon ASTM a36 yang merupakan baja tahan panas, sehingga cocok untuk variable terikat peneliti. Selain thermal shock resistance, persentase berat deposit juga diteliti. Variasi ang diteliti adalah waktu pencelupan saat proses elektroplating nikel, yaitu 10 menit, 15 menit, 20 menit. Variabel terkontrol saat elektroplating adalah temperatur larutan Ni2SO4 yaitu 500C – 600C, dan rapat arus 5A. Setelah Proses elektroplating, dilakukan proses penimbangan untuk persentase berat deposit. Kemudian uji thermal shock menggunakan dapur listrik pada temperatur 6500C, dan holding time 1 jam. Untuk menentukan ketahanan spesimen, digunakan software ImageJ untuk mengukur luas area yang mengalami kerusakan. Hasil perhitungan persentase berat deposit adalah 1.5946% pada 10 menit, 3.4980% pada 15 menit, 6.0314% pada 20 menit, yang mana semakin lama waktu pencelupan maka deposit yang tertempel juga semakin banyak. Sedangkan untuk thermal shock resistance adalah 45.59533% pada 10 menit, 33.12866% pada 15 menit, dan 18.28533% pada 20 menit, yang mana semakin lama waktu pencelupan maka kerusakan yang terjadi juga semakin sedikit.

English Abstract

Electroplating is one of advanced plating technique. Functions of this technique especially for base material’s property and anti-corrossion. It may even increase one’s heat resistance when applied by nickel, which is used by researcher for researching plated low carbon steel’s thermal shock resistance. Low carbon steel ASTM a36 was being used at this research which is heat resistance and applied to researcher’s dependent variable. Other than thermal shock resistance, weight-deposited percentage was inspected too. Variant being inspected here was electroplating bathing time, which are 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 20 minutes. Controlled variables was Ni2SO4 liquid temperature 500C – 600C, and 5A electric current. After being electroplated, speciment’s weight was measured. Thermal shock started by using heat furnace at 6500C and 1 hour holding time. Measuring thermal shock resistance of one specimen, software imageJ was being used by measuring the speciment’s surface damaged area. Measuring result for weight-deposited percentage were 1.5946% for 10 minutes, 3.4980% for 15 minutes, 6.0314% for 20 minutes, which is the longer the bathing time, the larger amount of nickel being deposited. As for thermal shock resistance, it were 45.59533% at 10 minutes, 33.12866% at 15 minutes, and 18.28533% for 20 minutes, which is the longer the bathing time, the smaller the damaged area that occurred at specimen/s surface.
