Abstract
Penelitian ini dilakukan berdasarkan dugaan dari peneliti bahwa siswa kelas 11 Bahasa Inggris-Perminatan SMA Negeri 2 Batu memiliki masalah dalam mendengarkan. Dugaan ini terbukti selama delapan minggu ketika peneliti melakukan observasi kelas saat menjalankan program PPL diantaranya ada beberapa siswa yang tertidur, dan adapula diantara mereka yang memainkan handphone nya ketika pelajaran mendengarkan berlangsung.Penelitian ini berupa cross-sectional survey atau survey yang dilakukan sekali saja yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan masalah siswa dalam hal mendengarkan. Subyek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas sebelas Bahasa Inggris-Perminatan SMA Negeri 2 Batu dengan total populasi 150 siswa dan 30 siswa sebagai sample yang diambil berdasarkan pertimbangan tertentu yaitu salah satu dari kelas tersebut diajar oleh satu guru yang sama. Penelitian ini menggunakan kuesioner dan wawancara yang telah diadopsi dari penelitian Anandapong (2011) dan Hamouda (2013) sebagai instrumen untuk pengumpulan dataBerdasarkan hasil penelitian, masalah utama yang dialami oleh siswa dalam mendengarkan adalah minat pribadi dari siswa itu sendiri. Masalah kedua adalah faktor internal siswa dalam belajar mendengarkan. Berdasarkan temuan, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa isi teks dalam mendengarkan, pembicara, fitur linguistik, dan karakteristik psikologis menjadi masalah yang sering dihadapi oleh siswa kelas sebelas dalam mendengarkan. Peneliti menyarankan agar guru harus lebih kreatif dalam mengajar mendengarkan, menggunakan media untuk mendukung proses belajar mengajar, membuat kegiatan yang lebih menarik di kelas. Kemudian, siswa juga harus memotivasi diri, mengembangkan kemampuan dalam mendengarkan serta lebih giat lagi berlatih bahasa Inggris.
English Abstract
This research is conducted based on researcher assumption that there are listening problems faced by students of 11th grade of English-Perminatan class SMA Negeri 2 Batu. This was prooved through 8 weeks observation during PPL-program showing that some students were sleepy in the classroom, and some of them played their mobile phone in the classroom when listening was taught.This research used a cross-sectional survey design with aim to describing the students problems in listening. The subjects of this research are the students at 11th grade of English-Perminatan class SMA Negeri 2 Batu with total population of 150 students and 30 students as the sample were taken using a purposive sampling based on shared characteristic that was the fact that the classes were taught by one teacher. This research used questionnaires and interview that were adopted from Anandapong (2011) and Hamouda (2013) as the intruments of collecting the data in this researchBased on the research result, the students main problem in listening is their personal intrest. The second problem is the internal factor of the students in learning listening. From the finding, the researcher concluded that content of the listening text, the speaker, linguistic features, and psychological characteristics become the most problem that the students faced in listening. It is suggested that the teacher should be more creative in teaching listening, use media to support the teaching and learning process more, and make some interesting activities in classroom. While, the students have to motivate themselves, develop their skill in listening, and practice English more.
