Taqiyyah, Salma and Cahyo Prayogo, and Asri Nurul Huda (2022) Kualitas Tanah Di Berbagai Tutupan Lahan : Evaluasi C-Organik Dan Respirasi Tanah. Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
English Abstract
Soil quality testing is an important factor in assessing soil conditions. Soil quality can be tested through soil quality indicators, namely chemical, biological, and physical properties of the soil. Soil quality testing can be reviewed by measuring the soil organic carbon (SOC) and soil respiration. Soil degradation can occur due to deficiency of soil organic matter. Soil organic matter is a source of food for microorganisms in their activities. The activity of microorganisms can produce CO2 gas through the respiration process. In addition, the important content in the soil is related to physical properties such as bulk density and available water content of the soil. Land cover is a major factor in influencing the SOC and soil respiration. One of the efforts to increase SOC is the planting of legume Indigofera sp., which is also a highly nutritious animal feed plant. This research was conducted to test the soil quality of Indigofera sp. compared with land cover for perrenial crops, namely Elephant Grass (Pennisetum purpureum) and Corn (Zea mays) with the assumption that Indigofera sp. plant land cover has higher soil quality in terms of SOC and soil respiration. This research was conducted in November 2021 – March 2022 in Sumberagung Village, Ngantang District, Malang Regency, East Java. The study was conducted on land cover plots of Indigofera sp which was 5 years old, Elephant Grass and Corn which was 3 months old. Each plot was divided into 3 replicates. In the Indigofera sp. plot, 8 sample points were taken for each replication, while in the Elephant Grass and Corn plot, 3 observation samples were taken for each replication. The measurements taken were the amount of litter on the soil surface, SOC, C content of each organic matter fraction, soil respiration and soil texture, soil density, and available water content. The results showed that the levels of SOC and soil respiration were significantly different (P < 0.05) between the land covers tested, where the largest SOC was found in the land cover of Indigofera sp. SOC content (2.01%) and soil physical properties (BD = 0.85 g cm-3) in the land cover of Indigofera sp. better than Elephant Grass land cover (C-organik = 1,65%, BD = 0,86) and Corn land cover (C-organik = 1,68%, BD = 0,92). However, the highest respiration rate was found in Corn land cover (110.83 kg C-CO2 ha-1 day-1). ), followed by (87.67 kg C-CO2 ha-1 day-1), and the lowest respiration was on land cover Indigofera sp. (66.27 kg C-CO2 ha-1 day-1
