Patawari, Siti Aminah Binti (2019) The Correlation between Vitamin D Serum Level and SCORAD in Children with Atopic Dermatitis in Pediatric Department Dr. Saiful Anwar Hospital Malang. Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.

Abstract

English Abstract

Vitamin D plays a huge role in the immune system as it inhibits the proliferation of B lymphocytes and modulation the humoral response suppressing the production of IgE. Several countries studying the relationship of vitamin D serum levels and severity of atopic dermatitis have had varying results. This research is to study the correlation between vitamin D serum levels and the clinical profile using SCORAD to children with atopic dermatitis in the Pediatric Department of dr. Saiful Anwar Hospital Malang. This is a cross-sectional study adapted in dr. Saiful Anwar Hospital Malang investigating the vitamin D (25[OH]D) serum level with three groups, where group 1 is vitamin D deficiency, vitamin D insufficiency for group 2 and group 3 is vitamin D sufficiency. SCORAD was used to know the severity of atopic dermatitis in each subject. Analysis was done using one-way ANOVA test and Pearson correlation test. There are 12 subjects completed in this study. It was founded that there is a significant difference of SCORAD between vitamin D groups (P = 0.04). There is a significant difference between deficiency compared to insufficiency group (P = 0.022) and there is no significant difference between deficiency-to-sufficiency (P = 0.076) and insufficiency-to-sufficiency (P = 0.075). Pearson correlation analysis shows there is a significant negative correlation of SCORAD to vitamin D (P = 0.049, r = -0.578), which shows a moderate negative relationship as it is close to -0.50. The study concludes that there is a correlation between levels of vitamin D and SCORAD with children atopic dermatitis.
