Harun, Muhamad (2019) Pemaknaan Khalayak Mengenai Pertukaran Peran Gender Dalam Film (Studi Reception Analysis Pada Film Ki and Ka (2016)). Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
English Abstract
This study aims to determine how the meaning of audiences (married couples) from different cultural backgrounds regarding the exchange of gender roles in the film Ki and Ka. Ki and Ka is one of the Bollywood films that tries to give a new perspective on gender roles, by displaying the exchange of gender roles that are carried out between men and women in the family. In the reality of life in general it is certainly not appropriate, especially in Indian and Indonesian society which is thick with patriarchal culture. This research is a descriptive qualitative research with the Stuart Hall model Reception Analysis method, namely encoding and decoding which divides the audience's meaning into Three Hypothetical Positions, consisting of Dominant Hegemonic Position, Negotiated Code Position, and Oppotional Code Position. Data collection techniques used in this study were in depth interviews. The results of this study found that the meaning received by the informant about the division of roles carried out between husband and wife, apparently still held fast to the patriarchal cultural stereotypes formed through social construction. There is no informant in the Dominant hegemonic position. Almost all informants basically did not approve of the dominant discourse displayed in the film Ki and Ka, because the values between the message makers that were displayed and the audience (informants) were very different and even contradictory. The informant whose wife only focuses on domestic work and the husband who focuses on earning a living is included in the Negotiated Code Position. While informants whose wives come to work and husbands who also help domestic work enter the Oppotional Code position. In addition, it turns out that religious, cultural, and family factors are the basis for forming gender roles played by informants.
