Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
English Abstract
Background: Adherence with treatment for hypertensive patients is important for controlling hypertension so that complications do not occur. The behavior shown by someone to compliance or not to the doctor's recommendations comes from his belief in hypertension, namely the Health Belief Model (HBM). Objective: to determine the relationship of demographics, susceptibility perceptions and severity of disease to drug adherence. Methods: The present study used an observational analytic design approach cross-sectional. Which was taken by the consecutives sampling technique, the respondents were 86 people. The instrument used to measure compliance is the MMAS questionnaire. Results: Chisqure Statistic test showed no relationship between gender and compliance (p = 0.697), there was no relationship between age and adherance (p= 0.345), no relationship between education and adherence (p = 0.536), no relationship between work and adherence (p = 0.697 ) and there is no relationship between income and adherence (p = 0.818). Spearman Rank statistical test showed that there was a relationship of perceptions of vulnerability (p = 0.001) and there was a relationship of perceptions of disease severity with (p = 0.001). Conclusion: perceived susceptibility and perceived severity associated with adherence to drug consumption, but demographic variables showed no association with adherence. Nurses are expected to counsel the importance of medication adherence in hypertensive patients, especially patients who have low adherence to approach perceived susceptibility and the perceived of the severity of the disease
