Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis apakah penggunaan metode pembelajaran penemuan dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa dalam teks deskriptif. Metode pembelajaran Discovery adalah proses pembelajaran yang menekankan intelektual mental siswa untuk memecahkan berbagai masalah. Berdasarkan studi pendahuluan yang telah dilakukan oleh peneliti, dikonfirmasi bahwa sebagian besar X akuntansi 1 mahasiswa SMK Negeri 12 Malang mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami teks terutama teks deskriptif. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas karena desain penelitian dan metode pembelajaran penemuan diimplementasikan untuk menyelesaikan masalah kelas. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus. Penelitian ini berfokus pada peningkatan siswa dalam pemahaman membaca dan peneliti menggunakan tes pemahaman membaca, daftar periksa observasi, pedoman wawancara dan kuesioner sebagai instrumen penelitian. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa implementasi metode penemuan pembelajaran dapat meningkatkan keterampilan pemahaman membaca siswa. Dari kriteria kesuksesan yang telah ditetapkan oleh peneliti, ada 70% siswa dapat lulus tingkat kelulusan minimum dari tes pemahaman membaca yaitu 75. Dalam pretest, hanya ada 8 siswa (25%) yang mendapat skor yang sama dan lebih tinggi. dari 75. Ini meningkat dan menjadi 18 siswa (56,25%) pada siklus 1 dan kemudian, ada 28 siswa (87,5%) yang mendapat skor yang sama dan lebih tinggi dari 75 pada siklus 2. Dalam kesimpulannya, penelitian tindakan kelas ini telah berhasil. Itu bisa dilihat dari peningkatan skor siswa dalam pemahaman membaca. Peneliti menunjukkan bahwa penelitian ini akan berguna untuk guru bahasa Inggris dalam proses belajar mengajar, terutama dalam mengajar pemahaman membaca. Untuk peneliti lebih lanjut, temuan ini dapat digunakan sebagai referensi dalam melakukan penelitian lain di bidang yang sama.

English Abstract

This research was conducted in order to analyze whether the use of Discovery Learning Method could improve students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text. Discovery Learning Method was a process of learning that emphasizes students’ mental intellectual to solve various problems. Based on the preliminary study that had been conducted by the researcher, it was confirmed that most of X Accounting 1 students of SMK Negeri 12 Malang had difficulties in comprehending text especially descriptive text. This research used classroom action research as the research design and Discovery Learning Method was implemented to solve the classroom’s problem. This research conducted in two cycles. This research focused on the students’ improvement in reading comprehension and the researcher used reading comprehension test, observation checklist, interview guidelines and questionnaire as the research instruments. The findings of the research showed that the implementation of Discovery Learning Method could improve the students’ reading comprehension skill. From criteria of success that had been set by the researcher, there were 70% students could pass the minimum passing grade of reading comprehension’s test that is 75. In the pretest, there were only 8 students (25%) who got equal score and higher than 75. It increased and became 18 students (56,25%) in cycle 1 and then, there were 28 students (87,5%) who got equal score and higher than 75 in cycle 2. In conclusion, this classroom action research has already been succeeded. It could be seen from the students’ score improvement in reading comprehension. The researcher suggests that this research would be useful for English Teacher in teaching and learning process, especially in teaching reading comprehension. For further researcher, the findings can be used as reference in conducting other research in the same field.
