Abstract
Kandidiasis adalah suatu infeksi jamur yang disebabkan oleh Candida sp., dan merupakan salah satu infeksi jamur yang sering ditemukan menyerang manusia. Tujuan dilakukan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efek pemberian ekstrak belimbing wuluh (Averrhoa blimbi L) terhadap jamur Candida albicans secara in vitro. Daun belimbing wuluh (Averrhoa blimbi L) mengandung flavonoid, saponin, tanin dan steroid/triterpenoid. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan eksperimental menggunakan dilusi agar dengan konsentrasi ekstrak belimbing wuluh (Averrhoa blimbi L) 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, 10%, 12%, 15%, dan 17,5%. Ekstraksi daun belimbing wuluh dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode maserasi dengan pelarut etanol 96%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada konsentrasi ekstrak 15% sudah mampu menghambat pertumbuhan koloni jamur Candida albicans dengan tidak terbentuknya koloni jamur pada media Saboraud Dextrose Agar (SDA). Hasil uji statistik menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan efek antijamur yang signifikan pada setiap pemberian konsentrasi ekstrak serta terdapat hubungan yang kuat antara pemberian ekstrak daun belimbing wuluh dengan pertumbuhan koloni jamur Candida albicans (p<0,005). Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah ekstrak daun belimbing wuluh memiliki efek antijamur terhadap Candida albicans.
English Abstract
Candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by Candida sp., and is one of the most common fungal infections found to affect humans. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of starfruit leaves extract (Averrhoa blimbi L) to Candida albicans in vitro. Starfruit leaves (Averrhoa blimbi L) contain flavonoids, saponins, tannins and steroids. This study is an experimental design using agar dilution method with concentration of starfruit extract (Averrhoa blimbi L) 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, 10%, 12%, 15%, and 17.5%. Starfruit leaves extract was made by maceration method with 96% ethanol as a solvent. The results showed that extract concentration at 15% was able to inhibit the growth of Candida albicans colonies on media Saboraud Dextrose Agar (SDA). The statistical test showed that there were significant differences of antifungal effect on each concentration of extract and there was a strong relationship between the extract of starfruit leaves and the growth of Candida albicans colonies (p <0,005). The conclusions of this study are starfruit leaves extract had an antifungal effect on Candida albicans.
