Abstract
Inferioritas dan Superioritas merupakan bagian dari konsep psikologi individual Alfred Adler yang menyatakan bahwa manusia terlahir dengan kekurangan dan hidupnya berjuang menaklukan kekurangan tersebut. Penulis meneliti perkembangan kepribadian pada Sebastian Rodrigues yang merupakan tokoh utama dalam karya sastra sebagai seorang pastor yang melakukan perjalanan pelayanan ke Jepang. Tokoh Rodrigues pergi ke Jepang setelah lulus dari seminari. Perjalanannya melayani di Jepang mengubah dirinya menjadi pribadi yang berbeda. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif analisis dan dengan konsep inferioritas dan superioritas milik Alfred Adler. Dalam teori psikologi individual Alfred Adler terdapat enam konsep, yaitu inferioritas, superioritas, finalisme semu, gaya hidup, kekuatan diri kreatif, dan minat sosial. Penulis menganalisis proses menuju tujuan akhir dari tokoh utama Sebastian Rodrigues. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada konsep inferioritas, superioritas dan finalisme semu pada tokoh Sebastian Rodrigues. Hasil analisis menunjukkan ketidakmampuan Rodrigues dalam memahami kuasa Tuhan dan mengampuni Kichijiro menjadi motivasi untuk menaklukan ketidakmampuannya. Tindakan melakukan praktik fumie menjadi momen yang mengubah diri Rodrigues. Dirinya mampu secara tulus mengampuni Kichijiro dan sadar bahwa Tuhan berkuasa bekerja dalam hidupnya.
English Abstract
Inferiority and Superiority is part of Alfred Adler Individual Psychology theory which states every human born with a weakness and they will try to overcome it. The author will analyze the psychology development on Chinmoku main character, Sebastian Rodrigues. Rodrigues is a pastor who applies a missionary duty to Japan. In his journey, Rodrigues experiencing a lot of situation that changed him into a new person. In this research, the author uses descriptive analysis method and superiority and inferiority theory by Alfred Adler. There are 6 concept in Adler’s individual psychology theory, consist of Inferiority, Superiority, fictional finalism, life style, creative self, and social interest. Author will analyze the Inferiority and Superiority concept in Sebastian Rodrigues character. In this study, the author found that there are inferiority, superiority, and fictional finalism in Sebastian Rodrigues character. This analysis reveals Rodrigues’ weakness which is the inability to understand God’s authority and forgiving Kichijiro is his effort to overcome his weakness. Fumie action is Rodrigues’s changing moment. He finally reached his superiority by forgiving Kichijiro and truly understand God’s authority.
