Abstract

Postcolonial adalah kajian yang mempelajari dampak dan efek setelah penjajahan pada negara yang dijajah. Mengingat hal itu peneliti mengadakan studi tentang gambaran budaya orang-orang Vietnam melalui film Rambo: First Blood Part II. Film ini menceritakan tentang tentara Vietnam sebagai sipir memperlakukan para tahanannya dengan buruk yang merupakan orang Amerika. Karena itulah peneliti akan menjawab rumusan masalah dalam studi ini yaitu penggambaran orang barat terhadap orang Vietnam melalui kondisi penjara pada film Rambo: First Blood Part II. Studi ini menggunakan teori orientalism oleh Edward Said, teori ini mencakup penggambaran orient sebagai timeless dan degenerate. Teori ini juga menganalisa inferiority yang terjadi pada orang Vietnam melalui film Rambo: First Blood Part II. Hasil studi ini menunjukkan bagaimana penggambaran orang barat terhadap orang Vietnam melalui kondisi penjara pada film Rambo: First Blood Part II adalah; (1) orang Vietnam kejam dan suka menyiksa. (2) orang Vietnam yang berwawasan rendah terhadap teknologi. (3) orang Vietnam sebagai degenerate atau malas, kurang disiplin, dan hal-hal negatif lainnya.

English Abstract

Postcolonialism is a study about impact after colonialization on culture and societies. Therefore, the researcher conducted a study of the Vietnamese culture through prison condition in Rambo: First Blood Part II movie. This film was created to show the superiority of America as a moviemaker and show the bad side of the Vietnamese people as a nation once colonized by America. This movie also tells about Vietnamese army who treated American prisoner badly. In this study, the researcher will answer the problem of study about the portrayal of Vietnamese culture through prison condition in Rambo: First Blood Part II movie. This Study uses Orientalism by Edward Said, this theory includes the depiction orient as timeless and degenerate. This theory is also applied to analyze the inferiority that has been happening in Vietnam through Rambo: First Blood Part II movie. The result of this study shows that there are several stereotypes about Vietnamese as orient in the movie. Those are ; (1) Vietnamese are savage. (2) Vietnamese are lack of technology. (3) Vietnamese as degenerate or lazy, indiscipline, and other negative things.
