English Abstract

The research was aimed to investigate effect of addition of tomato and turmeric powder as feed additive on internal quality of Japanese quail egg. Materials used in this research were 125 of 8 weeks old female quail with coefficient of variation of 9.47%, they were randomly distributed to 5 treatments with 5 replication and 5 birds each. The treatments were T0: basal feed without tomato and turmeric powder (Control); T1: basal feed + 0.25% tomato powder + 0.25% turmeric powder; T2: basal feed + 0.5% tomato powder + 0.5% turmeric powder; T3: basal feed + 0.75% tomato powder +0.75% turmeric powder; and T4: basal feed + 1% tomato powder + 1% turmeric powder. Variables observed in this research were yolk weight, albumen weight, yolk index, albumen index, and yolk color score. Data were analyzed using one-way Anova based on Completely Randomized Design, if significant effect appeared it was continued by Duncan Multiple Range Test. The result showed that there were highly significant effect (P<0.01) of tomato and turmeric powder vi addition on yolk color score but there were no significant effect (P>0.05) on yolk weight, albumen weight, yolk index, and albumen index of Japanese quail egg. Addition of 1% tomato powder + 1% turmeric powder (T4) tends to give higher yolk color score than the other treatments. The conclusion of this research is that addition of tomato and turmeric powder as feed additive could improve yolk color score with no effect to the other internal quality of Japanese quail egg.
