Abstract
Peternakan sapi potong merupakan salah satu sektor unggulan Indonesia yang kini sedang terpuruk. Jumlah populasi setiap tahun yang justru cenderung turun menyebabkan swasembada daging sapi makin jauh dari kenyataan. Mendatangkan sapi ekspor untuk menambah jumlah populasi merupakan solusi jangka pendek, tapi bukan jawaban untuk jangka panjang. Hal ini dilihat dari jumlah populasi sapi potong sebesar 97% berada di peternakan skala rakyat, bukan feedloter. English Abstract
The main problem of livestock farming business lies on institutional factor and availability of sustainable feed. The purpose of research was to empower farmers cattle group in Janggan Village, Poncol Sub-district, Magetan Regency, East Java. The activity implemented in January-May 2015, focus on application of feed technologies ramely: Amoniasi Jerami Padi (AJEP) and Kotoran Ayam Molasses Blok (Kamblok) of chicken waste from agriculture and animal husbandry waste, which was overstock and not used any more. Empowerment procces used concept Appreciative Inquiry, start with Discover, Dream, Design, and Destiny. It implementation used the participatory principle that involve people from planning, implementing, controlling, and evaluating. The evaluation process was asessed by using empowerment index, consist of power within, power over, power to and power with. Then, combine with three point that hamnely economics, information acces and partisipatory in culture and politic. Beef cattleman group I, II, III, and IV in Janggan Village are subjects of this activity empowerment. The results showed the successfull the program use AI procces. Product of this empowerment was establishment of Kelompok Peternak Pintar (KPP) which was chaired by Mr Parman. So, It showed that the strength of institutional capacity and collective action of people to stand by their self.
