Abstract

Selulosa propionate atau Nata propionate merupakan material produk reaksi esterifikasi nata de coco dengan asam propionat. Produk medifikasi ini diperoleh melalui reaksi termal berkatalis dibutil timah oksida atau reaksi enzimmatis lipase. Oleh karena itu, dalam penelitian ini akan menguji kelarutan selulosa propionate pada berbagai variasi campuran aquades: aseton. Fenomena swelling pada selulosa propionate memungkinkan dapat dibentuk film tipis atau membrane melalui teknik sintering. Sebelumnya selulosa propionate didispersikan ke dalam campuran pelarut aquades aseton. Variasi perbandingan volume aquades aseton 4:1; 3:1; 2:1; 1:2; 1:3;dan 1:4. Campuran diaduk selama 48 jam dan disaring. Padatan kemudian dimasukkan dalam alat cetakan dengan teknik sintering pada suhu 100 selama 5-10 menit. Karakterisasi membrane meliputi parameter kelarutan δmix, Densitas menggunakan piknometer dan perhitungan dimensi sampel, Indeks Swelling dan diameter pori. Hasil perhitungan parameter kelarutan δmix campuran pelarut aquades-aseton (1:4) mendekati δ selulosa asetat (12.47). Perbedaan densitas membran menggunakan piknometer dan perhitungan secara dimensi mengindikasikan adanya rongga atau pori di dalam membrane tersebut. Selisih harga densitas kedua perhitungan terjadi pada membrane dengan campuran aquades aseton (1:3). Sifat hidrofobisitas paling kecil didapatkan pada perbandingan pelarut aquades : aseton (4:1) dengan Indeks Swelling paling besar (126,21%). Ukuran pori terletak antara 0,981 – 1,191 μm.

English Abstract

Cellulose propionate or Nata propionate is a product of esterification reaction of nata de coco with propionic acid. This modified product is obtained by thermal reactions catalyzed with dibutyl tin oxide or enzymatic lipase reactions. Therefore, in this study will test the solubility of cellulose propionate in various ratioof aquades: acetone. The phenomenon of swelling on cellulose propionate allows for the formation of thin films or membranes through sintering techniques. Prior to membrane throught sintering technique, first, it was dispersed into a mixture of acetone aqueous solvents. Ratio of aquades and acetone are 4: 1; 3: 1; 2: 1; 1: 2; 1: 3, and 1: 4. Furthermore, it was stirred for 48 hours and was then filtered. Afterward, the redidues obtained were molded using hot pressing technique at 100 for 5-10 minutes. Characterization based on solubility parameter δmix of solvents, Swelling Index, density and its pore diameter. The result of solubility parameter δmix of aquades-acetone solvent (1: 4) approached δ cellulose acetate (12.47). The differences of membrane density by using pycnometers and dimensional calculations indicate the presence of cavities or pores within the membrane. The difference value of density occurs on the membrane with a mixture of aquades-acetone (1: 3). The smallest hydrophobicity was found in the aquades: acetone (4: 1) solvent with the largest Swelling index (126.21%). Pore size lies between 0.981 - 1.191 μm.
