Abstract

Belajar bahasa Inggris merupakan aspek yang penting pada saat ini karena Bahasa Inggris adalah Bahasa Internasional yang digunakan di dunia. Di Indonesia, Bahasa Inggris sudah dipelajari sejak pendidikan taman kanak-kanak hingga universitas, tetapi bagi beberapa siswa belajar Bahasa Inggris merupakan salah satu mata pelajaran yang sulit untuk beberapa alasan, khususnya terletak pada penguasaan kosa kata. Berdasarkan preliminary study yang telah dilakukan peneliti, membuktikan bahwa 8A SMP Negeri 7 Malang mengalami kesulitan dalam menguasai kosakata. Berdasarkan permasalahan yang dialami oleh siswa-siswa, peneliti mengusulkan teknik bernama Teenagers Song Lyrics guna meningkatkan kemampuan kosa kata siswa. Rumusan masalah dari penelitian ini adalaha “Bagaimana Teenagers Song Lyrics dapat meningkatkan kemampuan dalam menguasai kosa kata. Selain itu, peneliti menggunakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas berdasarkan teori dari Kemmis,S.,McTaggart’s yang terdiri dari 4 tahapan dalam satu siklus. Perencanaan, Pelaksanaan, Pengamatan, dan Refleksi. Peneliti menggunakan beberapa instrumen untuk mengumpulkan data. Panduan wawancara untuk guru dan siswa, checklist observasi, catatan lapang, dan angket atau kuesioner. Selain itu, peneliti membuat tes dan juga kriteria kesuksesan. Kriteria kesuksesan dari penelitian ini adalah jika lebih dari 75% siswa dapat mencapai KKM yaitu 75. Dapat disimpulkan, hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa 27 dari 30 siswa atau 90% siswa dapat mencapai kriteria kesuksesan dalam satu siklus. Dengan demikian, Teenagers Song Lyrics dapat digunakan sebagai teknik alternatif untuk mengajar kosa kata. Peneliti menyarankan kepada peneliti berikutnya yang tertarik untuk melakukan penelitian yang serupa, agar mengadakan lebih dari satu siklus. Sedangkan untuk guru bahasa Inggris, dapat menggunakan teknik ini untuk mengajarkan kepada siswa dengan menggunakan lagu remaja dan kegiatan yang lainnya yang sesuai untuk siswa.

English Abstract

Learning English is an important aspect in today’s life because English is International language in the world. In Indonesia, English has been taught since in pre-school to higher education, but for some students learning English is one of difficult subject for some reasons especially dealing with vocabulary mastery. Based on the preliminary study that has been conducted by the researcher, it is confirmed that students in 8th grade A of SMP Negeri 7 Malang found difficulties in mastering vocabulary. Based on the problem that were faced by the students, the researcher proposes Teenagers Song Lyrics to improve students’ vocabulary mastery. This research aims at investigating how can Teenagers Song Lyrics could improve students’ vocabulary of 8th grade A students of SMP Negeri 7 Malang. In addition, the researcher used Classroom Action Research in four meeting based on Kemmis,S.,McTaggart’s theory which consist of four stages in one cycle. They are planning, acting, observation, and reflecting. The researcher used some instruments to collect the data. They were teacher and students interview guide, observation checklist, field note, and questionnaire. On other hand the researcher made a test and also the criteria of success. The criteria of success was more than 75% of the students are able to pass minimum standard score of English that is 75. In conclusion, the result of this research showed that 27 of 30 students or 90% of the students can pass the criteria of success in one cycle. Thus, the Teenagers Song Lyrics can be used as an alternative technique for teaching vocabulary which can improve and keep their vocabulary. The researcher suggests to further researchers who are interested to conduct the similar research to have more than one cycle. While for the English teacher she can use this technique to teach the students with another teenager song and activity that appropriate for the students.
