Abstract

Proses belajar mengajar merupakan poin utama dalam proses pendidikan. Penerapan proses belajar mengajar dapat mempengaruhi keberhasilan siswa dalam pembelajaran. Dengan kata lain, hal tesebut dipengaruhi oleh fungsi dan peran guru. Guru dituntut untuk memilki kemampuan mengelola kelas, membangun hubungan dan interaksi yang baik dengan siswa. Sayangnya, ada banyak guru yang tidak menyadari akan pentingnya peran meraka sebagai seorang pendidik. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menganalisis peran guru dalam proses pembelajaran berdasarkan film Beyond the Blackboard dengan menggunakan teori Sanjaya. Permasalah yang harus terjawab dalam penelitian ini yaitu: Apa saja peran guru di dalam film Beyond the Blackboard? Pendekatan kualitatif digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk menggambarkan fenomena yang diamati, dimana data diambil dari dokumentasi film Beyond the Blackboard dalam bentuk ucapan dan adegan dari Stacey Bess. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalaui beberapa tahap: melihat film, menemukan informasi terkait dengan peran guru, dan mengkelompokan ungkapan serta adegan yang berhubungan dengan peran guru. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa ada tujuh peran guru yang diterapakan Stacey Bess, yakni peran guru sebagai sumber belajar, fasilitator, pengelola, demonstrator, pembimbing, motivator, dan evaluator. Peneliti menemukan bahwa peran guru yang sering digunakan dalam film ini adalah peran guru sebagai pengelola. Di samping itu, Stacey mampu menerapkan dan menggabungkan peran tersebut dengan sangat baik. Peran guru yang dimainkan dengan baik berhasil membantu Stacey dalam membangun hubungan dengan siswa, mengurangi gangguan dalam proses pembelajaran, meningkatkan prestasi siswa, dan menginspirasi siswa untuk mengubah tingkah laku mereka yang buruk. Dari hasil yang diperoleh, peneliti memberi saran kepada guru, terutama guru Bahasa Inggris supaya lebih sadar akan peran mereka selama proses belajar mengajar. Saran bagi peneliti selanjutnya, agar melakukan penelitian guna mengetahui persepsi siswa terhadap peran guru dalam proses pembelajaran.

English Abstract

Teaching and learning become the main point of educational process. The implementation of teaching and learning process can affect students’ learning success. It can be said that it is determined by the function and role of teachers. Teachers are required have an ability to manage classroom, build a good relation and good interaction with students. Unfortunately, there are many teachers who are unaware of the importance of their role as an educator. In this study, the researcher analyzed the role of teacher in learning process based on Beyond the Blackboard movie by using Sanjaya’s theory. There is a problem to be solved in this research namely: What are the teacher’s roles in Beyond the Blackboard movie? Qualitative approach used in this research to describe about the phenomena being observed, in which the data were taken from the documentation of Beyond the Blackboard movie in the form of Stacey Bess’s utterances and scenes. The data were collected by doing some steps: watching the movie, discovering information about teacher role, and classifying the utterances and scenes contain of the teacher’s roles. The research finding reveals that there were seven roles of teacher that applied by Stacey Bess, they are teacher as resource, facilitator, manager, demonstrator, supervisor, motivator, and evaluator. The researcher found the most roles that is often used in this movie is the role of teacher as manager. Besides that, Stacey also be able to apply and combine those roles properly. The roles of teacher that played properly is succeeded help Stacey to build a good rapport with the students, minimize disruptions in the learning process, increase the students’ achievement, and inspire the students to change their bad behavior. From the result, the researcher suggests that teachers, especially English teacher can give more concern about the importance of their roles during teaching and learning process. The suggestion for the further researcher to conduct a research in order to know students’ perception toward teachers’ role in learning process.
