Abstract

Dengan perkembangan teknologi, para siswa dapat dengan mudah melakukan penulisan kolaboratif melalui aplikasi berbasis internet untuk mendapatkan saran dan umpan balik dari teman mereka secara online. Penelitian ini berfokus pada respon siswa terkait kegiatan menulis kolaboratif menggunakan Google Docs. Data dikumpulkan dari 105 mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris yang telah mengikuti mata kuliah menulis (Essay Writing, Paragraph Writing, Academic Writing) dengan melakukan studi survei potong- lintang menggunakan teknik pengumpulan purposive sampling. Peserta didik diminta untuk mengisi kuesioner adaptif yang terdiri dari 28 pernyataan tentang pendapat mereka terhadap penggunaan Google Docs dalam menulis kolaboratif. Seluruh data dianalisis menggunakan SPSS versi 25. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan mahasiswa setuju bahwa Google Docs adalah platform yang dapat memfasilitasi mereka untuk membuat teks bahasa Inggris secara kolaboratif dengan bantuan fitur- fitur komunikasi yang ada dalam Google Docs (jumlah rata- rata= 3.58). Fitur khusus tersebut adalah Chat-box dan Add- comment page. Sebagian besar pengalaman siswa dengan ketiga genre teks tersebut bagus untuk penggunaan Google Docs sebagai platform kolaboratif online di era digital. Studi ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan Google Docs sangat disarankan untuk diimplementasikan terutama untuk penulisan selanjutnya.

English Abstract

With the development of technology, the students can easily conduct collaborative writing through the internet- based application to gain suggestions and feedbacks from their partners online. This study focused on the students’ responses related to collaborative writing activities using Google Docs. The data were collected from 105 students of English Language Education Program who had taken writing courses (Essay Writing, Paragraph Writing, Academic Writing) by conducting cross-sectional survey design using purposive sampling. Learners were asked to complete an adaptive questionnaire consisting of 28 statements about their opinion toward the use of Google Docs in collaborative writing. The data were analyzed using SPSS 25. The findings of the study showed that the students agreed that Google Docs was a platform that facilitated them to produce writing collaboratively by the help of its communication features (average= 3.58). Those specific features were Chat-box and Add- Comment page. Most of the students’ experiences acrossed the three text genres were good toward the use of Google Docs as an online collaborative platform in this digital era. This study showed that the use of Google Docs was highly suggested to be implemented especially for future writing.
