Abstract
Johnny’s Communication Center adalah satu segmen di NCT Daily YouTube channel yang dibawakan oleh Johnny Suh. Penelitian ini berfokus untuk menganalisis jenis, alasan dan persepsi penonton akan Alih Kode yang digunakan Johnny di JCC. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Data penelitian ini merupakan ucapan Johnny di video JCC dan hasil dari kuesioner. Untuk menganalisa data, penelitian ini menggunakan teori dari Poplack (1980) yang dikutip dari Romaine (1995, p. 122), dan teori Holmes (2013). Hasil menunjukkan bahwa dari 118 ucapan Johnny, 71 ucapan berjenis Inter-sentential Switching, 25 ucapan berjenis Intra-sentential Switching, dan 22 ucapan berjenis Tag/Emblematic Switching. Penelitian ini juga menemukan ada enam alasan Johnny dalam menggunakan Alih Kode di video, yaitu peserta, solidaritas, topik, status, alih kode untuk afektif, and peminjaman leksikal. Selanjutnya, peneliti juga menemukan dua alasan lain selain dari teori Holmes, yaitu pengulangan untuk klarifikasi dan untuk memperjelas maksud dari ucapan. Hasil dari kuesioner menunjukkan bahwa kebanyakan penonton memberikan persepsi bagus atas Alih Kode yang digunakan Johnny. Mereka merasa nyaman dengan penggunaan Alih Kode dan memahaminya. Selain itu, Alih Kode membantu pengetahuan mereka dan memotivasi mereka untuk menggunakan Alih Kode. Untuk peneliti berikutnya disarankan untuk mengembangkan penelitian mereka dengan menggunakan objek lain seperti komunitas tutur yang menggunakan bahasa lokal. Tambahan, peneliti juga bisa meneliti bagaimana Alih Kode memengaruhi penggunaan formal dan informal bahasa oleh pembicara, honorifik dalam bahasa Korea atau bahasa lainnya.
English Abstract
Johnny’s Communication Center is one of the segments in the NCT Daily YouTube channel and is hosted by Johnny Suh. This research focuses on analyzing the types, reasons, and perceptions of the viewers of the use of code-switching by Johnny in JCC. This research employs a qualitative approach. The data is utterances by Johnny in JCC videos and the results of the questionnaire. To analyze the data, this research used the theory proposed by Poplack (1980) as cited in Romaine (1995, p. 122) and Holmes's (2013) theory. Findings revealed that out of 118 utterances by Johnny, 71 utterances contained Inter-sentential Switching, Intra-sentential Switching in 25 utterances, and Tag/Emblematic Switching in 22 utterances. This study also finds out there were six reasons why Johnny switched language in the videos, namely the participants, solidarity, topic, status, switching for affective function, and lexical borrowing. Furthermore, the researcher also finds two more reasons outside of Holmes's theory: repetition used for clarification and intention of clarifying the speech content. The results of the questionnaire showed that most of the viewers gave good perceptions of the code-switching used by Johnny. They were comfortable with the use and understand it. Also, it helped them in their knowledge and motivates them to use code-switching. A suggestion was given to future researchers to develop their study by using another object such as speech communities that use local languages. In addition, he or she can conduct research regarding how the use of code-switching affects the speakers’ use of formal or informal, honorifics in the Korean language or other languages.
