English Abstract

Everyone has the right to education, including children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, children with ASD are less likely than their normal peers. They appear empirically like stupid children, indifferent, not communicative, and have difficulty adapting to their environment. Despite this, many children with autism are still included in inclusive classrooms. An Inclusive school is a school that accepts both normal and disabled children. It means that all learners with or without disabilities can learn together through the appropriate support service network, through common preschool education regulations, and the school and community education environment. The purpose of this research is to describe the process, obstacles and solutions of English teaching learning process in inclusive classroom in Sekolah Karakter in Depok, West Java. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method, with one English teacher of Sekolah Karakter as the participant of the study. Although the patricipant is limited, participant provides insight on his perspectives, challenges, actions, including teaching strategies to facilitate a successful learning environment for students with ASD. Data were collected through observation and interview. This study was supposed to be done in person. In addition, due to Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic, this research was conducted online. Therefore, the results of this study are not as optimal as if done offline. The results showed that the teacher adjusted the methods and materials according to the students with ASD needs in Sekolah Karakter. The English teacher in this study is an experienced teacher. Students with ASD in Sekolah Karakter are children with autism level 1 so they can follow the learning process well. However, they are easy to get distracted while writing. To overcome this, teachers always remind them to always focus on their assignments
