Abstract

Introduction to English Linguistics adalah salah satu pelajaran yang paling menantang bagi pembelajar bahasa Inggris di Indonesia karena beberapa aspek, salah satunya adalah materi pembelajaran yang cukup sulit untuk dipahami, dan juga motivasi siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi mahasiswa terhadap penerapan Outcome-Based Education (OBE) pada mata kuliah Introduction to English Linguistics. Subyek penelitian ini adalah 143 mahasiswa semester tiga Program Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Universitas Brawijaya.. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan desain survei. Penelitian ini menggunakan kuesioner sebagai instrumennya. Kuesioner dua bagian diadopsi dari Lixun (2013). Kuesioner dibagi menjadi dua bagian yaitu kuesioner evaluasi mata kuliah dan kuesioner evaluasi diri mahasiswa. Data yang terkumpul kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan program Microsoft Excel.. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa siswa menunjukkan respon positif terhadap kegiatan belajar mengajar dalam mendukung hasil belajar mereka. Sementara itu, temuan terkait kepercayaan diri siswa terhadap hasil belajarnya menunjukkan hasil yang kurang memuaskan. Kajian mendalam terhadap kepercayaan diri siswa dalam mencapai hasil belajar perlu dilakukan di masa yang akan datang.

English Abstract

Introduction to English Linguistics is one of the most challenging lessons for English language learners in Indonesia due to several aspects, one of which is the learning material which is quite difficult to understand, and also the motivation of the students. This study aims at finding out the students’ perception towards the implementation of Outcome- Based Education (OBE) in Introduction to English Linguistics Course. The subjects of this study were 143 third-semester students of English Language Education Program, Universitas Brawijaya. The approach used in this study was quantitative with survey design. This study used questionnaires as the instrument. Two-parts questionnaire was adpted from Lixun (2013). The questionnaire was divided into two parts which were course evaluation questionnaire and students’ self-evaluation questionnaire. The collected data then were analyzed using Microsoft Excel program. The study revealed that the students showed positive responses towards teaching and learning activities in supporting their learning outcomes. Meanwhile, the finding relates to the students’ self-confidence towards their learning outcomes showed unsatisfactory result. An in-depth study towards students’ self confidence in achieving learning outcomes is needed to be conducted in the future.
