Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendemonstrasikan untuk mengetahui tantangan impromptu speaking yang digunakan untuk mengajar berbicara di sekolah menengah berdasarkan pengalaman siswa. Peneliti menggunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode studi kasus. Peneliti menggunakan checklist observasi dan panduan wawancara sebagai instrumen penelitian ini. Pesertanya adalah 4 siswa berprestasi rendah di XII Sosial 3 di salah satu SMA di Jawa Timur. Hasil penelitian ini dari observasi kelas dan wawancara siswa menunjukkan bahwa penerapan teknik impromptu speaking lebih dipengaruhi oleh pengalaman negatif. Oleh karena itu, kurangnya pemahaman menjadi faktor terpenting yang membuat siswa gagal dalam penerapan teknik ini. Guru diharapkan dapat mengeksplorasi teknik speaking lain yang sesuai dengan kondisi siswa dan kelas.
English Abstract
This research aims to demonstrate to find out the challenges of impromptu speaking used to teach speaking in a high school based on the experiences of the students. The researcher employed qualitative research using the case study method. The researcher used an observation checklist and interview guide as an instrument of this research. The participants are 4 low scorer students in the XII Social 3 in one of the high schools in East Java. The result of this research from the class observation and students’ interview showed that the implementation of impromptu speaking technique is more influenced by negative experiences. Therefore, the lack of understanding is the most important factor that makes students failed in the implementation of this technique. The teacher is expected to explore another speaking technique that is suitable for the students’ and classroom condition.
