Abstract
Studi ini dilakukan dengan menganalisa kontra stereotip Afrika yang terdapat pada film The Black Panther. Studi ini berfokus pada bagaimana penciptaan kontra stereotip Afrika terjadi dalam film ini dalam konteks ilustrasi Wakanda sebagai negara adidaya kulit hitam yang berbanding terbalik dengan kenyataan masyarakat Afrika. Masalah utama di studi ini berkaitan dengan bagaimana penciptaan kontra stereotip Afrika terjadi dalam film The Black Panther. Film ini tidak hanya menceritakan tentang cerita superhero, namun film ini juga bercerita tentang citra fiksi masyarakat dan budaya kulit hitam. Film ini juga menggambarkan nilai-nilai budaya masyarakat Afrika serta keberadaan Wakanda sebagai negara fiktif yang berbeda dengan realitas masyarakat Afrika itu sendiri. Teori Roland Barthes dipilih untuk menganalisa simbol-simbol atau tanda-tanda yang dideskripsikan dengan sistem denotasi dan konotasi untuk menunjukkan mitos kontra stereotip Afrika yang digambarkan didalam film ini. Studi ini juga menggunakan kajian elemen film, sinematograpi, dan dialog untuk mendukung analisis kontra stereotip Afrika yang digambarkan pada film ini. Film The Black Panther menarik perhatian penulis berdasarkan perbandingan peradaban Afrika yang digambarkan dalam film ini dengan sejarah kelam kulit hitam Afrika dan eksistensi mereka didunia nyata. The Black Panther dikenal sebagai film pahlawan super kulit hitam pertama Marvel, yang disutradarai oleh sutradara kulit hitam, Ryan Coogler. Wakanda digambarkan sebagai negara maju fiksi orang kulit hitam Afrika yang berusaha menyamar sebagai negara dunia ketiga. Wakanda memiliki sumber daya alam yang melimpah, sumber daya manusia yang maju, teknologi yang canggih, dan masyarakat yang menghargai tradisi dan menghormati para pemimpinnya. Pada akhirnya, kisah ini berfokus pada perjuangan dua kandidat black panther, Erik Killmonger dan T'Challa, dengan ideologi yang berbeda. Dalam prosesnya, penulis menyadari bahwa stereotip-sterotip orang kulit hitam pada film ini berusaha diciptakan untuk menentang konstruksi stereotip kolonialisme yang hingga sekarang masih melekat. Sehingga penulis tertarik untuk menganalisa stereotip kulit hitam yang terkandung dalam film ini dengan tujuan untuk mengidentifikasi penciptaan stereotip Afrika yang terjadi dalam film ini dalam konteks ilustrasi Wakanda sebagai negara adidaya kulit hitam. Hal ini bertujuan untuk memberikan sudut pandang yang berbeda dan mengungkap lebih banyak sisi dari apa yang terlihat di permukaan film ini.
English Abstract
This research was carried out by examining the African counter-stereotypes depicted in the film The Black Panther. This study focuses on how the creation of African counter-stereotypes occurs in this film in the context of the illustration of Wakanda as a black superpower, which is inversely proportional to the reality of African society. The main issue in this study is how the film The Black Panther creates counter-stereotypes of Africa. This film not only tells about superhero stories, but it also tells about the fictional image of black society and culture. This film also describes the cultural values of African society and the existence of Wakanda as a fictitious country that is different from the reality of African society itself. Roland Barthes's theory was chosen to analyze the symbols or signs that are described with a denotation and connotation system to show the African counter-stereotype myths depicted in this film. This study also uses a study of film elements, cinematography, and dialogue to support the analysis of the counter-stereotypes of Africa depicted in this film. The Black Panther film attracted the attention of the writer based on the comparison of the African civilization depicted in this film with the dark history of black Africans and their existence in the real world. The Black Panther is known as Marvel's first black superhero film, directed by a black director, Ryan Coogler. Wakanda is depicted as a fictional, developed nation of black Africans trying to pass themselves off as a third-world country. Wakanda has abundant natural resources, advanced human resources, sophisticated technology, and a society that respects traditions and respects its leaders. In the end, the story focuses on the struggle of two black panther candidates, Erik Killmonger and T'Challa, with different ideologies. In the process, the writer realizes that the stereotypes of black people in this film are trying to be created to oppose the stereotype construction of colonialism, which is still attached today. The writer is interested in analyzing the black stereotypes contained in this film with the aim of identifying the creation of African stereotypes that occur in this film in the context of the illustration of Wakanda as a black superpower. It aims to provide a different perspective and reveal more sides of what is seen on this film.
