Abstract
Kegiatan budidaya tanaman melon sangat bergantung pada benih berkualitas. Penggunaan benih berkualitas diharapkan dapat menghasilkan tanaman yang dengan penampilan karakter yang baik. Tanaman melon sangat bergantung pada keberadaan polinator dalam kegiatan penyerbukan. Penyerbukan buatan dapat menjadi solusi pada ketergantungan polinator. Meskipun begitu, kegagalan dalam kegiatan penyerbukan buatan masih tinggi. Program pemuliaan tanaman dapat menjadi solusi dalam meningkatkan viabilitas serbuk sari tanaman melon untuk meningkatkan keberhasilan penyerbukan. Penelitian dilaksanakan di lahan penelitian Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Brawijaya yang berlokasi di Jalan Veteran, Ketawanggede, kecamatan Lowokwaru, Kota Malang, Jawa Timur. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menanam melon generasi F1 20 tanaman dan tanaman melon generasi F3 berjumlah 10 tanaman. Bahan lain yang dibutuhkan berupa tanah, pupuk kandang, pupuk NPK, pupuk KNO3, pestisida previcur, insektisida decis, dan air. Alat yang dibutuhkan berupa plastik, polibag berukuran 35 cm x 35 cm, meteran, penggaris, pisau, kamera, laptop dan alat tulis. Penelitian dilakukan tanpa rancangan percobaan. Karakter yang diamati berupa panjang sulur, jumlah daun, waktu muncul bunga jantan dan betina, serta jumlah bunga jantan dan betina. Hasil penelitian keragaman karakter kuantitatif pada fase pertumbuhan dan pembungaan tanaman melon ME x ME generasi F1 dan F3 menunjukkan bahwa terdapat keragaman dari kedua generasi tanaman melon ME x ME. Seluruh karakter kuantitatif tanaman melon ME x ME generasi F1 yang diamati termasuk kedalam kategori rendah hingga sedang. Karakter panjang sulur, jumlah daun, jumlah bunga jantan dan bunga betina tanaman melon ME x ME generasi F1 termasuk kedalam kategori koefisien keragaman sedang. Karakter yang termasuk kedalam kategori keragaman rendah adalah karakter waktu muncul bunga jantan dan betina. Karakter panjang sulur pada tanaman melon ME x ME generasi F3 termasuk kedalam kategori cukup tinggi. Karakter jumlah daun dan jumlah bunga jantan termasuk kedalam kategori sedang. Karakter yang termasuk kedalam kategori nilai rendah adalah karakter waktu muncul bunga jantan dan bertina serta jumlah bunga betina
English Abstract
Melon plant cultivation activities depend on good quality seeds. The use of good quality seeds is expected to produce plants with good character appearance. Melon plants are very dependent on the presence of pollinators in pollination activities. Artificial pollination can be a solution to pollinator dependence. Even so, failure in artificial pollination activities is still high. Plant breeding programs can be a solution in increasing the viability of melon plant pollen to increase pollination success. The research was conducted in the research field of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Brawijaya, which is located on Jalan Veteran, Ketawanggede, Lowokwaru sub-district, Malang City, East Java. The research was conducted by planting 20 F1 generation melon plants and 10 F3 generation melon plants. Other materials needed include soil, manure, NPK fertilizer, KNO3 fertilizer, previcur pesticide, decis insecticide, and water. The tools needed are plastic, polybag measuring 35 cm x 35 cm, tape measure, ruler, knife, camera, laptop, and stationery. The study was conducted without an experimental design. The observed characters were length of tendrils, number of leaves, time of emergence of male and female flowers, and number of male and female flowers. The results of the study of the variation of quantitative characters in the growth and flowering phases of the F1 and F3 generations of the ME x ME melon plants showed that there was variation in the two generations of the ME x ME melon plants. All the quantitative characters of the F1 generation ME x ME melon plants observed belonged to the low to medium category. The characters of the length of the tendrils, the number of leaves, the number of male and female flowers of the ME x ME F1 generation melon plants were included in the moderate coefficient of variation category. The characters included in the low diversity category were the characters at the time of emergence of male and female flowers. The character of the length of the tendrils on the ME x ME F3 generation melon plants was included in the fairly high category. The characters of the number of leaves and the number of male flowers are included in the moderate category. The characters included in the low value category are the time of appearance of male and female flowers and the number of female flowers
