Abstract

English Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic can increase stress in teenagers. The phenomenon of stress eating is one aspect that is related to the incidence of stress and eating behavior. Adolescents usually prefer foods that increase satisfaction but do not consider health factors, one of which is sugar-sweetened beverages. This can trigger increased consumption of sugary drinks (Sugar-Sweetened beverages) in stressed adolescents. This study aims to examine the stress level of adolescents on the frequency of sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) consumption during the Covid-19 pandemic. The design of this study used a cross-sectional research sample of adolescents aged 15-18 years as many as 426 respondents. The research was conducted online via Google Forms. The data taken are stress events measured using the DASS-21 questionnaire and the frequency of consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) using the Food Frequency Questionnaire form that has been validated. The study's results also found that the stress level was mostly in the moderate category in male respondents 7.8%, and female respondents 9.4%. The proportion of female adolescents was higher in consuming sugar-sweetened beverages than male respondents, especially in the soda, coffee, tea, milk, and fruit juice groups. The results of the analysis of the relationship between stress levels and the frequency of consumption of soda, coffee, tea, isotonic, milk, and fruit juice have a p-value of 0.202; 0.840; 0.705; 0.999; 0.073; 0.680. The conclusion is that there is no significant relationship between adolescent stress levels and the frequency of consumption of Sugar-Sweetened Beverages (SSB) during the Covid-19 pandemic.
