Abstract
Skripsi ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari simbol identitas gay yang digambarkan oleh dua karakter utama, Teh dan Oh-Aew, dalam serial yang berjudul I Told Sunset About You. Metode yang digunakan dalam skripsi ini adalah metode kualitatif untuk pengumpulan sumber data dan penerapan teori karakterisasi dari Joseph M. Boggs dan Dennis W. Petrie serta teori semiotika dari Roland Barthes untuk analisis data. Skripsi ini menunjukkan simbol-simbol identitas gay yang ditunjukkan oleh tokoh utama. Hasilnya adalah Teh dan Oh-Aew menunjukkan identitas mereka sebagai gay melalui simbol-simbol berdasarkan pengarakteran mereka. Ada peranan sendiri dalam hubungan gay, yaitu top yang memiliki sifat lebih maskulin dan agresif dan juga peran bottom yang memiliki sifat lebih feminin dan penurut. Dalam serial I Told Sunset About You, Teh memiliki peranan sebagai top dan Oh-Aew sebagai bottom. Kesimpulannya, perilaku maskulin dan feminin merupakan simbol identitas gay sebagai top dan bottom yang digambarkan oleh Teh dan Oh-Aew dalam serial tersebut. Oleh karena itu, penulis berharap skripsi ini dapat memberikan dampak positif, termasuk meningkatkan pemahaman tentang simbol identitas gay.
English Abstract
This thesis aims to learn about the symbol of gay identity represented by the two main characters, Teh and Oh-Aew, in the series titled I Told Sunset About You. The method used in this thesis is the qualitative method in the data source and applying the theory of characterization by Joseph M. Boggs and Dennis W. Petrie and the theory of semiotic by Roland Barthes for the data collection and analysis. This thesis tries to show the symbols of gay identity shown by the main characters. Teh and Oh-Aew show their identity as gay through symbols based on their characterization. In a gay relationship, there are specific roles: top with more masculine and aggressive traits and bottom with more feminine and submissive traits. In the I Told Sunset About You drama series, Teh is the top, and Oh-Aew is the bottom. In conclusion, masculine and feminine behavior symbolizes gay identity as a top and bottom that Teh and Oh-Aew in the series represents. Therefore, the researcher hopes this thesis will have positive effects, including raising understanding of the symbol of gay identity.
