Abstract

Plastik kemasan merupakan plastik yang berasal dari bahan bersifat sintetis atau semi-sintetis yang sering digunakan untuk melindungi bahan yang dikemas agar terhindar dari kerusakan. Keberadaan plastik kemasan menimbulkan pencemaran karena banyak terakumulasi di lingkungan dan sulit terurai. Keadaan plastik kemasan yang sulit terurai ini mendorong untuk dilakukan penelitian mengenai pembuatan bioplastik yang bersifat ramah lingkungan. Pembuatan bioplastik biasanya menggunakan bahan polimer alami, seperti pati. Perbandingan jumlah konsentrasi kitosan dan gliserol yang digunakan sangat menentukan kualitas kuat tarik, elongasi, dan daya serap air bioplastik pati yang dihasilkan. Tujuan penelitian bioplastik pati ganyong adalah untuk menentukan penambahan konsentrasi kitosan dan gliserol yang optimum terhadap respon kuat tarik, elongasi, dan daya serap air menggunakan Response Surface Methodology rancangan Central Composite Design. Hasil optimasi bioplastik pati umbi ganyong berdasarkan formulasi optimal yang disarankan oleh software design expert menghasilkan formula konsentrasi kitosan 2% dan gliserol 33,682%. Prediksi yang dihasilkan oleh software pada kondisi optimum untuk respon kuat tarik sebesar 17,482 N/mm2, respon elongasi sebesar 17,597%, dan respon daya serap air sebesar 23,896%. Dengan nilai desirability 0,784. Hasil verifikasi aktual menggunakan paired t-test menunjukkan bahwa verifikasi respon kuat tarik, elongasi, dan daya serap air tidak berbeda nyata dengan prediksi yakni untuk respon kuat tarik sebesar 16,37 N/mm2, respon elongasi sebesar 15,78%, dan respon daya serap air sebesar 21,48%.

English Abstract

Plastic packaging is plastic made from synthetic or semi-synthetic materials, which is often used to protect packaged materials to avoid damage. The existence of plastic packaging causes pollution because it accumulates a lot in the environment and it is difficult to decompose. The condition of plastic packaging that is difficult to decompose encourages research about making bioplastics environmentally friendly. The manufacture of bioplastics usually uses natural polymeric materials, such as starch. The ratio of chitosan and glycerol used will determine the quality of tensile strength, elongation, and water absorption of bioplastic starch produced. This study aims to determine the optimum concentration of chitosan and glycerol for tensile strength, elongation, and water absorption using Response Surface Methodology by Central Composite Design. The optimization results of canna edulis starch bioplastics based on the optimal formulation suggested by the software design expert resulted in a chitosan concentration of 2% and a glycerol concentration of 33,682%. Prediction of tensile strength response at optimum conditions is 17,482 N/mm2, elongation response is 17,597%, and water absorption response is 23,896% with a desirability value of 0,784. The results of the actual verification using a paired t-test showed that the verification of tensile strength, elongation, and water absorption responses were not significantly different from the predicted, which resulted in a tensile strength response of 16,37 N/mm2, an elongation response of 15,78%, and water absorption response of 21,48%.
