Arifin, - (2018) Peran Lembaga Keuangan Mikro (LKM) Terhadap Pemberantasan Kemiskinan (Studi pada Pedagang Ikan di Kota Makassar). Doktor thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.

Abstract

English Abstract

This study has ten objectives. Firsts, this study analyzes the influence of MFI on the competitiveness of fishmongers. Second, it analyzes the influence of MFI on social capital. Third, it analyzes the influence of MFI on micro and small enterprises. Fourth, it analyzes the influence of fishmongers’ competitiveness on micro and small enterprises. Fifth, it analyzes the influence of fishmongers’ competitiveness on their poverty. Sixth, it analyzes the influence of social capital on micro and small enterprises. Seventh, it analyzes the influence of social capital on fishmongers’ competitiveness. Eighth, it analyzes the influence of social capital on fishmongers’ poverty. Ninth, it analyzes the influence of micro and small enterprises on fishmongers’ poverty. Tenth, it analyzes the influence of MFI on fishmongers’ poverty. The analysis of this positivist study uses structural equation modelling with partial least square method. The focus of this study is micro and small entrepreneurs (fishmongers) in Paotere fish market in Makassar with the total sample of 100 people, who were selected through purposive sampling. The data of this study were collected through questionnaires, interview, and documentation. This study finds that (1) the existence of MFI influences fishmongers’ competitiveness; (2) MFI influences the social capital of fishmongers; (3) MFI does not directly influence the condition of micro and small enterprises; (4) fishmongers’ competitiveness does not directly influence the condition of micro and small enterprises; (5) competitiveness does not directly influence fishmongers’’ poverty; (6) social capital influences the condition of micro and small enterprises; (7) social capital influences the improvement of fishmongers’ competitiveness; (8) social capital influences fishmongers’ poverty; (9) micro and small enterprises influence fishmongers’ poverty; (10) MFI influences fishmongers’ poverty. The theoretical implications of this study are that it enriches the link among the concepts of MFI, Social capital, and poverty and strengthens the link among MFI, social capital, micro and small enterprise, and poverty. This study practically implies that, if the local government are committed to eradicate fishmongers’ poverty, they must pay attention to the provision of business capital, particularly giving an adequate space for MFI to finance fishmongers. Consequently, fishmongers must maintain social capital, e.g. trust, cooperation, and honesty, related to the development of their business for easy and soft loans and business competitiveness improvement.
