Abstract

This study aims to obtain the 1-allyl-3-(2-chlorobenzoyl) thiourea compound through synthesis and determine its activity as an antibacterial against Escherichia coli urine isolate 1223. Thiourea compound derivatives have been known have antibacterial activity, so this study was conducted as a step to find a new antibacterial agent. The synthesis method used is nucleophilic substitution with the Schotten- Baumann reaction and the chemical structure of the product was analyzed using UV, FTIR, NMR spectrophotometry and Mass spectrometry. Antibacterial activity assay was carried out using agar dilution method and gentamicin as the positive control. Observation of the growth of bacterial colonies was carried out by scoring. The rendemen of synthetic products was 14.41%, pure and has a structure as expected. The final concentration of the test groups used were 7.8125 ppm to 1000 ppm did not show any antibacterial activity, so the MIC value could not be determined. From these results, it can be concluded that the compound 1-allyl-3-(2-chlorobenzoyl) thiourea can be obtained through the Schotten-Baumann synthesis reaction, but it does not have antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli isolate 1223. Further research is needed so that the compounds have antibacterial activity so that it can be used as a candidate for new antibiotics.
