Abstract

Mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris menjadi salah satu mata pelajaran yang mengalami perubahan dalam kurikulum 2013. Perubahan ini berdampak signifikan dimana terjadi penghapusan mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris untuk sekolah dasar. Namun, mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris tetap menjadi materi ujian di sekolah dan menjadi salah satu syarat untuk masuk ke Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP). Selain itu, guru bahasa Inggris mengambil materi dari buku yang berbeda sehingga materi yang diajarkan berbeda antara satu sekolah dengan sekolah lainnya. Karena masalah ini, hasil ujian bahasa Inggris di bawah standar karena materi yang digunakan untuk ujian di setiap daerah sama, tetapi materi yang diajarkan di sekolah berbeda. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan buku teks bahasa Inggris berbasis budaya lokal untuk kelas dua sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini menggunakan model penelitian R&D dari Borg dan Gall (2003). Model penelitian R&D tersebut terdiri dari 7 tahapan: need assessment, the principle of product development, syllabus development, expert’s validation, operational product revision, try-out, and final product. Peneliti menggunakan kuesioner, interview, dan lembar validasi sebagai instrumen penelitian. Data dianalisis secara kualitatif. Ahli memvalidasi isi dari buku untuk menilai kesesuaian dan kelayakan dari pengembangan buku bahasa inggris berdasarkan local culture untuk kelas dua sekolah dasar. Berdasarkan hasil dari data analisis, data menunjukkan bahwa buku valid dan dapat digunakan. Tanggapan ahli pada lembar validasi menunjukkan bahwa buku sudah dapat diterapkan dalam pengajaran Bahasa Inggris kepada siswa kelas dua. Peneliti menyarankan agar guru Bahasa Inggris menggunakan buku tersebut karena dapat menjadi sebuah pedoman proses belajar mengajar

English Abstract

English subjects became one of the subjects that were changed in the 2013 curriculum. This change had a significant impact where there was the elimination of English subjects for elementary schools. However, English subjects remain a test material at school and become one requirement to enter junior high school. In addition, the English teachers take material from different books so that the material being taught is different from one school to another. Because of this problem, the English exam results are below the standard because the material used for the exam in each region is the same, but the material taught in schools is different. Therefore, this research aims to develop an English textbook based on local culture for the second grade of elementary school. This study uses the R&D research model from Borg and Gall (2003). The R&D research model consists of 7 stages: need assessment, the principle of product development, syllabus development, expert's validation, operational product revision, try-out, and final product. The researcher used questionnaires, interviews, and validation sheets as research instruments. Data were analyzed qualitatively. The expert validated the book's contents to assess the suitability and feasibility of developing an English language book based on local culture for the second grade of elementary school. Based on the results of the data analysis, the data shows that the book is valid and can be used. The response from the expert on the validation sheet shows that the book can already be applied in teaching English to second-grade students. The researcher suggests that English teachers use the book because it can guide the teaching and learning process.
