Abstract

Keterampilan menulis adalah salah satu yang penting dan sangat diperlukan bagi siswa EFL. Keterampilan ini merupakan keterampilan kompleks yang tidak dapat dipelajari secara mandiri. Meskipun siswa belajar dari rumah, mereka membutuhkan pemahaman teori dan bimbingan yang komprehensif dari guru selama proses pembelajaran. Oleh karena itu, guru memanfaatkan banyak media dan aplikasi yang dapat mendukung pembelajaran online ini dengan berbagai pertimbangan. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui persepsi siswa kelas IX SMPN 04 Pare tentang penggunaan grup WhatsApp untuk pembelajaran menulis. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi kasus karena penulis ingin mengidentifikasi persepsi siswa kelas IX C di SMPN 4. Sebanyak 31 siswa mengisi angket yang telah disebarkan. Hasil temuan disajikan dalam bentuk statistik deskriptif. Penulis menggunakan mean sebagai ukuran untuk mengetahui persentase persepsi siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa memiliki respon positif terhadap penggunaan WhatsApp dalam pembelajaran menulis. Adapun saran yang diberikan kepada guru yaitu; teknik pembelajaran yang diterapkan oleh guru harus terus dilakukan di masa depan, guru juga harus menetapkan batas waktu pengiriman tugas dan guru harus memberikan umpan balik korektif positif kepada siswa. Sedangkan bagi siswa hendaknya meningkatkan rasa percaya diri dalam mengirimkan hasil kerjanya ke grup. Untuk peneliti selanjutnya dapat melakukan wawancara untuk mendapatkan data kualitatif mendalam ataupun studi korelasi antara persepsi siswa dengan prestasi menulis siswa

English Abstract

Writing skill is the one that crucial and indispensable for the EFL students. This skill is a complex skill that cannot learn independently. During COVID-19 pandemic, although students learn from home, they need a comprehensive understanding of theories and practical guidance from the teacher during the learning process. Therefore, teachers make use of many media and application that can support this online learning with various considerations. This research is conducted to find out the perception of ninth grade students’ of SMPN 04 Pare on the use of WhatsApp group for learning writing. This research used case study as method because the writer wants to identify students’ perception in IX C class of SMPN 4. There were 31 questionnaires responded by the students in total. The findings are presented in the form of descriptive statistics. The writer used mean as the measurement to determine the percentage of students’ perception. The result shows that the students have positive responses toward the use of WhatsApp in learning writing. The suggestions are made for the teachers that are; the learning technique implemented by the teacher should continue to be done in the future, the teacher also has to put a time limit for sending assignment and teacher should provide positive corrective feedback for student. As for the students, they should increase their self-confidence in sending their work to the group. For the next researcher they could conduct interviews to get qualitative in-depth data or correlation study between students’ perception and students’ writing achievement.
