Maknun., Alifa Luluil (2021) Relationship between EFL Students’ Epistemic Beliefs and Their Spoken Corrective Feedback Beliefs during Online Remote Learning amid COVID-19. Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
English Abstract
English has been studied in Indonesia as a foreign language for many years. There are four skills of English: listening, writing, reading, and speaking. In learning English at a University, anywhere, the role of feedback is important for the learners. Feedback acknowledged as an essential element of improving the learning process of the students (Al-Bashir, et al., 2016). Apart from feedback, epistemic beliefs also play an important role in students’ learning activities. Epistemic beliefs belong to educational psychology that originally comes from epistemology (Emaliana & Rahmiati, 2019). This study will involve the 1st semester and 3rd semester of English Language Education Program Students of Universitas Brawijaya to be the research participants. Two questionnaires will be distributed to students in an online learning environment. First, the data will be collected by using an epistemic beliefs questionnaire (adopted) from Emaliana (2017) as the instrument to know about students’ perception of knowledge. Second, Corective Feedback Beliefs Scale (adopted) from Zhang & Rahimi, 2014 to investigate students’ feedback beliefs. The results from the questionnaires’ responses were evaluated to find out whether there is a correlation between them. The finding reveals that correlation between two variables which are students’ epistemic beliefs and their spoken corrective feedback beliefs indicates high correlation. it shows that the correlation coefficient between two variables which are students’ epistemic beliefs and their spoken corrective feedback belief is .718. It’s categorized as high correlation as the correlation examined significant at the 0.01 level. Whereas, the P values is .000 < 0.01 which reveals that the two variables show significant correlation. In conclusion, it can be assumed that the higher students’ epistemic beliefs the higher level of their spoken corrective feedback beliefs.
