Abstract

English Abstract

Fossil fuels are non-renewable energy, in which their demands and utilizationneed to be reduced. Optimisation of renewable energy is therefore critical, especially those of from biomass resources. Indonesia has abundant biomass suchas chicken manure and macroalgae (Gracilariasp), which have been highlighted aspotential feedstock for bioenergy production, especially biogas, due to their highorganic materials content. This study aimed to determine the impact of anaerobic co-digestion of chicken manure and macroalgae (Gracilariasp) on methane and toestimate the electrical potential from co-digestion of chicken manure and Gracilariasp. Biochemical methane potential (BMP) test was employed in this study operatedunder mesophilic condition for 28 days. Samples used include blank control, α-cellulose control and co-digestion samples with feedstock added at different ratio ofchicken manure and Gracilaria sp. (i.e. 100% KA (chicken manure), 100% GR(Gracilaria sp.), 70 KA: 30 GR, 60 KA: 40 GR, 50 KA: 50 GR, 40 KA: 60 GR and 30KA: 70 GR). All samples were prepared in triplicate. The results showed that codigestion at ratio of 50 KA: 50 GR has the highest specific methane potential with thevalue of 0.155 mL/kgVS. The ANOVA test results indicated that for all co-digestiontreatments have F value (4.514) > F Table (2.142) at α=95%, which showing a significantdifference on methane/biogas production. The highest estimation of electricalpotential was 670.9 kWh for 100 KA, followed by 623.9 kWh for 40 KA: 60 GR and608.2 kWh for 50 KA: 50 GR, respectively
