Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menentukan profil kualitas air dan struktur komunitas serta beberapa indeks biotik dari diatom (planktonik dan bentik) di Air Terjun Parang Tejo dan salurannya. Jenis penelitian ini adalah ex post facto. Lokasi penelitian ditentukan dengan metode selected sampling berdasarkan aktivitas manusia di sekitar aliran air. Lokasi pengambilan sampel meliputi jatuhnya air terjun (stasiun 1), kemudian menuju ke arah hilir yaitu 2000 m (stasiun 2), dan 4000 m dari air terjun (stasiun 3). Parameter fisika kimia air yang diukur meliputi suhu, pH, DO, dan Konduktivitas. Estimasi kualitas air juga ditentukan dengan menghitung struktur komunitas diatom dan nilai indeks biotik dari diatom baik yang bersifat planktonik maupun bentik (H’ TDI, % PTV). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kualitas fisika kimia air berdasarkan PP No. 82 tahun 2001 di Air Terjun Parang Tejo tergolong dalam kelas II yang dapat digunakan sebagai prasarana rekreasi air dan mengairi pertanian. Berdasarkan penentuan struktur komunitas dan indeks diatom (planktonik dan bentik) dapat diketahui bahwa kualitas air di stasiun 1 berstatus mesotrofik, sedangkan pada stasiun 2 dan stasiun 3 berstatus eutrofik. Nilai %PTV dari diatom bentik, stasiun 1 belum tercemar bahan organik, sedangkan stasiun 2 dan 3 tercemar bahan organik ringan. Namun, berdasarkan diatom planktonik semua stasiun pengamatan belum tercemar bahan organik. English Abstract

The objectives of this research are to determine the profile quality of water, the community structure and biotic indices diatom (planktonic and benthic) in Parang Tejo Waterfall and its channel. This is ex post facto research. The research location is determined with selected sampling based on the human activity on the spot. The sampling location included: the waterfall (station 1), its channel located + 2000 m from waterfall with agricultural activities (station 2), and the channel located + 4000 m from waterfall with settlement activities (station 3). The physics and chemical parameters of the water were measured i.e temperature, pH, DO, and conductivity. The evaluation of water quality is also determined by calculating the community structure of planktonic and benthic diatoms with some biotic indices (H’, TDI, %PTV). The results reveal that the water physics and chemical quality in Parang Tejo Waterfall classified as class II acceptable for water recreation and agricultural irrigation based on Indonesia government regulation No. 82/2001. Based on the calculation of TDI (planktonic and benthic), it can be determined that the water quality at station 1 was mesotrophic, while at station 2 and 3 was eutrophic. The water in station 1 has not been polluted by organic pollutants, while stations 2 and 3 have been contaminated with slight organic pollutants based on %PTV of benthic diatoms. However, based on planktonic diatoms index, all of the research stations are not contaminated with organic matter yet. Benthic diatoms are more effectively used as bioindicators of the quality of waterfalls and their channels compared to planktonic diatoms, because benthic diatom can be attached to the substrate.
