Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana Tami Oldham sebagai karakter utama dalam film Adrift memenuhi kebutuhan dasarnya untuk bertahan hidup dalam situasi kritis terdampar di lautan. Dengan menggunakan teori hierarki kebutuhan karya Abraham Maslow, kebutuhan manusia yang paling vital untuk bertahan hidup pada saat menghadapi situasi kritis di laut akan terungkap. Penerapan teori kebutuhan Maslow dalam studi ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan bagaimana karakter utama berusaha memenuhi tiap tingkat kebutuhannya. Selain itu, teori film dan juga teori sinematografi juga akan digunakan dalam proses analisis film ini. Keduanya digunakan untuk menginterpretasikan makna dari beberapa adegan yang terpilih. Karena film Adrift menggambarkan seseorang yang selamat dari kecelakaan kapal di laut, kebutuhan akan keselamatan dirinya didahulukan dan lebih mendesak baginya untuk dipenuhi. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pemenuhan kebutuhan seseorang tidak selalu berurutan sebagaimana halnya teori hierarki kebutuhan manusia, melainkan lebih bergantung pada situasi dan kondisi yang dihadapinya.
English Abstract
The aim of this study is to find out how Tami Oldham, the main character of Adrift movie fulfillls her basic needs to survive the critical situation of being stranded in the ocean. By using Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, the most important needs during the survival in the ocean is revealed. The Maslow’s theory of needs is applied to describe how the character works to achieve each stage of her need. In addition, the movie studies and cinematography are also applied in the analysis of the movie. It is used to interpret the meaning of the selected scenes in the movie. Since Adrift movie portrays who has to survive a yacht accident in the sea, the safety needs to save her life come first and are more urgent for her to fulfill. This finding implies that a person’s needs do not always come in the same order as the hierarchy of needs but rather depend on the situation and condition the person is dealing with.
