Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memecahkan masalah siswa dalam menulis prosedur melalui pendekatan pembelajaran kontekstual (CTL) di kelas sepuluh siswa Teknik Kendaraan Ringan E dari SMK PGRI 3 Malang pada tahun akademik 2018/2019. Peneliti menemukan beberapa masalah yang dihadapi oleh siswa di X-TKRE. Masalah siswa adalah sulit untuk mengatur ide-ide mereka, bagaimana memulai untuk menulis, kurangnya kosa kata dan penguasaan tata bahasa. Mengetahui masalahnya, peneliti berusaha membantu siswa untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menulis mereka terutama teks prosedur. Salah satu caranya adalah dengan menggunakan pendekatan pembelajaran yang tepat yaitu pendekatan pembelajaran kontekstual. Pendekatan ini membantu siswa untuk belajar dengan menghubungkan subjek akademik dengan konteks kehidupan sehari-hari mereka. Metode penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Penelitian dilaksanakan dalam satu siklus yang terdiri dari empat pertemuan. Langkah-langkah tersebut melibatkan perencanaan, tindakan dan observasi, dan refleksi. Data penelitian ini adalah data kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Data kualitatif diperoleh dengan mengamati proses belajar mengajar dan mewawancarai guru bahasa Inggris dan siswa X-TKRE. Kemudian, data kuantitatif diperoleh dari tes menulis siswa. Kriteria keberhasilan adalah 70% siswa mendapat skor sama atau lebih besar dari KKM yaitu 75. Oleh karena itu, peneliti melakukan tes menulis setelah penerapan Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran Kontekstual untuk mengetahui peningkatan skor menulis siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan CTL meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks prosedur. Ini mencakup kosa kata siswa dan penguasaan tata bahasa. Oleh karena itu, penerapan pendekatan pembelajaran kontekstual dapat membuat siswa menjadi lebih aktif dan antusias dalam proses belajar mengajar.

English Abstract

This research aimed to solve the students’ problems in writing procedure text through Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach at the tenth grade Teknik Kendaraan Ringan E student of SMK PGRI 3 Malang in the academic year of 2018/2019. The researcher found some problems faced by students in X-TKRE. The students’ problems were difficult to organize their ideas, confused about how to start writing, lack of vocabulary and grammar mastery. Knowing the problems, the researcher tried to help the students to improve their writing skill especially procedure text. One of the ways is to use the appropriate learning approach which is contextual teaching and learning approach. This approach helps students to study by connecting the academic subject with the context of their daily lives. The method of this research was classroom action research. The research was carried out in one cycle consisted of four meetings. The steps involved planning, action and observation, and reflection. The data of the research were qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data were obtained by observing the teaching and learning process and interviewing the English teacher and the students of X-TKRE. Then, the quantitative data were obtained from the students’ writing test. The criterion of success was 70% of students got score equal or greater than KKM which is 75. Therefore, the researcher conducted the writing test after the implementation of Contextual Teaching and Learning to know the improvement of the students’ writing score. The result of the study showed that the implementation of CTL was improved the students’ ability in writing procedure text. It covers students’ vocabulary and grammar mastery. Therefore, the implementation of contextual teaching and learning approach can make the students become more active and enthusiast in the teaching and learning process.
