Abstract

Mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris di Sekolah Dasar telah di hapus dari mata pelajaran wajib karena perubahan KTSP menjadi kurikulum 2013. Akan tetapi, mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris masih menjadi syarat masuk ke Sekolah Menengah Pertama dan salah satu mata pelajaran yang akan diujikan pada ujian sekolah. Karena alasan-alasan tersebut, banyak sekolah membuat kebijakan bahwa mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris masih diajarkan di Sekolah Dasar sebagai ekstrakurikuler tetapi mereka harus mempunyai keseragaman materi antara satu sekolah ke sekolah yang lain. Oleh karena itu, tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu mengembangkan silabus Bahasa Inggris berbasis kearifan lokal untuk kelas tiga Sekolah Dasar. Penelitian ini menggunakan model penelitian R&D dari Borg dan Gall (2003). Model penelitian R&D tersebut terdiri dari 7 tahapan: need assessment, principle of product development, syllabus development, expert’s validation, operational product revision, try-out, and final product. Peneliti menggunakan kuesioner, interview, dan lembar validasi sebagai instrumen penelitian. Data dianalisis secara kualitatif. Ahli diminta untuk memvalidasi isi dari silabus yang sesuai untuk siswa kelas tiga atau tidak, sedangkan siswa-siswa diberikan try-out dari silabus yang telah divalidasi. Berdasarkan hasil dari data analisis, data menunjukkan bahwa silabus valid dan sangat bagus. Respon dari ahli isi pada lembar validasi menunjukkan bahwa silabus sudah dapat diterapkan dalam pengajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk siswa kelas tiga. Respon dari siswa-siswa di try-out, materi pada silabus tersebut menarik, mudah dan dapat menumbuhkan rasa nasionalisme. Peneliti menyarankan guru Bahasa Inggris untuk menggunakan silabus tersebut karena itu dapat menjadi sebuah pedoman pada proses belajar mengajar. Untuk peneliti-peneliti selanjutnya, peneliti menyarankan untuk mengembangkan buku ajar Bahasa Inggris sesuai dengan silabus yang ada

English Abstract

English subject in Elementary School has been deleted from being compulsory subject because of changing KTSP into curriculum 2013. However, English subject still becomes entry requirement to Junior High School and one of the subject that will be tested in the school examination. Because of that reasons, many schools made a policy that English subject is still taught in Elementary School as extracurricular but they must have material uniformity between one school to another school. So, the aim of this study is developing English syllabus based on local wisdom for third grade of Elementary School. The study used research and development model by Borg and Gall (2003). The model consist of seven phases: need assessment, principle of product development, syllabus development, expert’s validation, operational product revision, try-out, and final product. The researcher used questionnaire, interview, and validation checklist as the instruments of this study. The data was analyzed qualitatively. The expert was asked to validate the content of syllabus that appropriate for third grade students or not, whereas students were given try-out of the syllabus that has been validated. Based on the result of data analysis, the data have shown that the syllabus was valid and very good. From the content expert’s response in validation checklist, it could be applied in teaching English for the third grade students. From students’ response in try-out, the material of syllabus was interesting, easy and it can increase the feeling of nationalism. The researcher suggests English teacher in Elementary School to use the syllabus because it can be a guideline in teaching and learning process. For future researchers, it is suggested to develop English textbook according to the syllabus that has done.
