Abstract
Self disclosure atau keterbukaan diri menjadi fenomena yang marak dilakukan di ruang terbuka seperti sosial media. Salah satunya yakni pada media sosial Instagram. Dengan berbagai fitur menarik, seperti contohnya Instagram Story, pengguna seringkali memanfaatkan fitur tersebut sebagai wadah untuk melakukan keterbukaan diri terkait informasi privatnya. Salah satu akun bernama @Catwomanizer memanfaatkan fitur tersebut sebagai ajang berbagi kisah pribadi dirinya dan followersnya dengan berbagai topik sensitif terkait hubungan pribadi orang lain dan seksualitas yang mana masih dianggap tabu untuk dibahas di khalayak umum oleh masyarakat Indonesia. Dengan isi pesan diskusi yang dianonimkan, membuat banyak pengguna semakin membagikan informasinya pada akun tersebut, meski para followers tersebut belum tentu mengenal pemilik akun secara langsung. Melihat fenomena itu, studi ini akan meneliti apa motif self disclosure dari followers akun Instagram @Catwomanizer dalam berbagi informasi privatnya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu survei kuesioner online kepada 100 responden yang merupakan followers akun Instagram @Catwomanizer, pernah berbagi informasi pribadinya kepada akun tersebut, dan berusia minimal 17 tahun. Penelitian ini menggunakan konsep self disclosure dan tujuh motif self disclosure di Internet yang diidentifikasi oleh Lee dkk., (2008). Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa motif utama followers Instagram @Catwomanizer dalam membagikan informasi privatnya adalah dorongan untuk berbagi informasi kepada orang lain, mereka juga merasa bahwa melakukan self disclosure pada akun tersebut adalah hiburan dan seperti menulis jurnal pribadi. Karena dengan hal itu mereka bisa mengekpresikan perasaannya dan merasa memiliki kesamaan dengan pengguna lain.
English Abstract
Self-disclosure becomes a common phenomenon in social media, such as Instagram. With various interesting features, such as Instagram Story, users can take advantage of these features as a place to open themselves up to their private information. One account named @Catwomanizer utilizes this feature as a place to share personal stories of himself and his followers with a variety of sensitive topics related to other people's personal relationships and sexuality which is still considered taboo to be discussed in general by Indonesian society. With the contents of an anonymized discussion message, many users increasingly share their information to that account, despite they don't know who exactly the owner of the account is. Seeing that phenomenon, this study will examine what are the motives of self-disclosure of @Catwomanizer Instagram account followers in sharing their private information to the account. This research employed online questionnaire through 100 respondent who are followers of @Catwomanizer Instagram account, have shared their personal information to that account, and are at least 17 years old. This study uses the concept of self disclosure and seven motives of self disclosure on the Internet identified by Lee et al. (2008). The results of this study indicate that the main motive of @Catwomanizer Instagram followers in sharing their private information is the encouragement to share information with others, they also feel that doing self disclosure on this account is entertainment and like writing a personal journal. Because with self-disclosure they can express their feelings and have similarities with other users.
