Abstract
Pantau merupakan sebuah majalah yang lahir pada masa awal reformasi. Penerbitannya ditujukan untuk memantau media di Indonesia. Pantau menjadi sebuah majalah pertama di Indonesia yang konsisten menggunakan serta mengenalkan jurnalisme sastra. Pantau dinilai menjadi sebuah media yang melahirkan kebaharuan dan memberi warna pada corak jurnalisme di Indonesia. Penelitian ini berusaha menggali lebih jauh perkembangan Majalah Pantau sebagai sebuah media yang lahir pada masa awal reformasi. Hal ini dapat menjadi sebuah cara untuk dapat memetakan perkembangan pers di Indonesia. Oleh karena itu, penggunaan komunikasi perspektif sejarah sangat membantu mengurutkannya berdasarkan waktu. Untuk melihat sejarah sebuah media, komunikasi perspektif sejarah bidang institutional history dipilih untuk menggambarkan perkembangan Majalah Pantau. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Pantau memiliki tiga fase perkembangan selama tiga tahun hidup. Pantau membawa kebaruan dalam hal jurnalisme sastra yang digunakannya. Selain jurnalisme sastra, Pantau juga menegaskan penggunaan prinsip jurnalisme yang pada saat itu belum diterapkan media lain. Sayangnya, Pantau hanya terbit selama tiga tahun karena alasan keuangan. Ada banyak upaya yang dilakukan agar dapat menghidupi media ini meskipun belum berhasil membawa Pantau terbit lebih lama. Maraknya jumlah media yang tumbuh pada awal reformasi serta tak relevan lagi kehadiran media bawah tanah menjadi keadaan yang memicu terbitnya Majalah Pantau. Tujuan utamanya, untuk memberikan laporan jurnalistik kepada pembaca tentang media dan terorisme di Indonesia. Seperti yang ditulis Janet Steele (2007) dalam Wars Within, Pantau merupakan media yang inovatif.
English Abstract
Pantau is a magazine that was born in the early days of reform. The publication is intended to monitor the media in Indonesia. By using literary journalism in its reporting process, Pantau became the first magazine in Indonesia to consistently use and introduce literary journalism. Pantau is considered to be a media that gives birth to renewal and gives color to the style of journalism in Indonesia. This study sought to explore further the development of Pantau Magazine as a media that was born in the early days of reform. This can be a way to map the development of the press in Indonesia. Therefore, the use of historical communication perspectives helps to sort them by time. To see the history of a media, the communication history of institutional history was chosen to illustrate the development of Pantau Magazine. The results of this study indicate that Pantau has three developmental phases for three years of life. Pantau brings renewal in terms of literary journalism that it uses. In addition to literary journalism, Pantau also emphasized the use of the principle of journalism which at that time had not yet been applied by other media. Unfortunately, Pantau only appeared for three years due to financial reasons. There have been many attempts to support this media even though it has not been successful. There have been many efforts made to support this media even though it has not succeeded in bring Pantau to be published longer. The growing number of media that grew at the beginning of the reform and was no longer relevant to the presence of underground media became a condition that triggered the publication of Pantau Magazine.
