Abstract
Pengajaran speaking bukan tugas yang mudah untuk seorang guru, dikarenakan guru harus melakukaan sesuatu yang beda dari apa yang biasa dilakukan dalam mengajar skill yang lain. Guru harus mempunyai banyak strategi dalam mengajar speaking untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam speaking. Ada satu permasalahan yang diselesaikan dalam penelitian ini yaitu strategi apa yang dinakan oleh guru dalam mengajar speaking di kelas sebelas lintas minat SMA Negeri 1 Batu. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, subjek yang diteliti adalah guru bahasa inggris untuk kelas sebelas lintas minat. Terdapat tiga puluh lima siswa di kelas. Data dari penelitian ini diperoleh dari observasi selama delapan pertemuan dan wawancara dengan guru bahasa Inggris. Dalam penelitian ini, berdasarkan teori dari Kayi (2006), terdapat empat belas strategi yang dapat digunakan oleh guru bahasa Inggris dalam mengajar speaking, diantaranya : discussion, brainstorming, information gap, role play, simulation, interview, reporting, speech, story completion, picture describing, picture narating, find the difference, dan playing card. Dari empat belas strategi tersebut, guru hanya menggunakan tiga strategi yang sesuai dengan materi di kelas sebelas lintas minat, yaitu: discussion, information gap, dan brainstorming. Strategi yang paling sering digunakan oleh guru dalam mengajar speaking adalah discussion dan information gap.strategi tersebut sangat effectif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam speaking.
English Abstract
Teaching speaking is not an easy task for the teacher, because the teacher should do something different than what they usually do in teaching other skills. The teacher should have various strategies in teaching speaking to increase the students speaking ability. There is the research problem to solve in this reserach : what are strategies used by the teacher in teaching speaking for the eleventh grade students in kelas lintas minat of SMAN 1 Batu. This study used descriptive qualitative approach. The subject being investigated was English teacher for the eleventh grade students in kelas lintas minat of SMAN 1 Batu. There were thirty five students. The data were obtained from eight times classroom observation and interview with the English teacher. This study revealed that according to the theory from Kayi (2006), there are some strategies in teaching speaking used by the teacher such as : discussion, brainstorming, information gap, role play, simulation, interview, reporting, speech, story completion, picture describing, picture narating, find the difference, and playing card. From fourteen strategies, the teacher used only three strategies that is appropriate with the material for elevent grade in kelas lintas minat, namely : discussion, information gap, and brainstorming. Discussion and information gap strategies were the most frequenly used in teaching speaking. Those strategies were effective to promote the students’ speaking ability.
