Abstract
Media merupakan sebuah alat yang digunakan agar para siswa lebih mudah memahami materi. Media juga berfungsi untuk menarik perhatian para siswa dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar. Film adalah salah satu media pembelajaran yang mempunyai banyak tokoh didalamnya yang dibungkus dalam cerita yang menarik. Film dimulai dengan pengenalan tokoh dilanjutkan dengan terjadinya konflik atau permasalahan, dan diakhiri dengan penyelesaian dari masalah tersebut. Susunan organisasi tersebut sama dengan yang terdapat pada teks narasi. Penelitian ini meneliti tentang penggunaan film dalam pembelajaran teks narasi. Peneliti fokus kepada langkah yang dilakukan oleh guru bahasa inggris dalam menggunakan film untuk mengajar tentang teks narasi, serta bagaimana respon para siswa mengenai hal tersebut. Desain penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian studi kasus yang dideskripsikan secara kualitatif. Sedangkan untuk partisipannya adalah guru bahasa inggris dan siswa-siswi di kelas X-MIPA 7 SMAN 1 Turen. Peneliti menggunakan tiga macam instrumen dalam proses penelitian ini, yaitu observasi kelas, wawancara dengan guru bahasa inggris, serta kuesioner untuk siswa kelas X-MIPA 7. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa guru bahasa inggris melakukan tiga langkah ketika menggunakan film dalam mengajar teks narasi. Disamping itu, 48% siswa kelas X-MIPA 7 merespon film tersebut sangat menarik, sesuai, dan efektif untuk mereka; 32% siswa merespon bahwa teks pada film susah dimengerti, namun mereka tetap memahami isi film serta dapat menganalisisnya dengan melihat gambar film; 16% merespon sulit ketika menganalisis, namun mereka menyukai kegiatan menonton film; 3% merespon kesulitan ketika kegiatan pembelajaran menggunakan film. Bagi guru yang akan datang, memilih media yang sesuai, menarik, serta efektif bagi siswa sangatlah penting. Terakhir, saran untuk paeneliti yang akan datang, penelitian ini dapat dijadikan referensi dalam penelitian selanjutnya, dapat juga dikembangkan dengan subjek dan metode penelitian yang berbeda.
English Abstract
Media is an equipment to make the students easier to understand the materials. It also can attract students' attention on teaching and learning process. Movie is one of teaching media that shows many characters in an interesting story. It has introduction at the beginning followed by conflicts and ended up by the solutions, similar to the generic structure of a narrative text. This research investigated the use of movie in teaching narrative text. The researcher is focused on the steps in using movie for teaching narrative text and the students’ responses. This study use case study as the research design. The participants of this study were the English teacher and students of X-MIPA 7 in SMAN 1 Turen. The researcher implemented three kinds of instruments such as observation, interview for the teacher, and questionnaire which were contributed to the students. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the teacher did three steps when using movie in teaching narrative text. Meanwhile, the 48% students responses that the movie was attractive, appropriate, and effective for them; 32% responses that the subtitle was not easy to understand, but they can still understanding the storyline and identified the organization from watching the visual motion; 16% responses that difficult to analyzed the organizations because of the English subtitle, but they were liked watching this movie; 3% response feels trouble when learning narrative text through movie. Hopefully the teacher keeps using interesting media in teaching English. For the future teacher, selecting the appropriate, attractive, and effective media for the students is important. For the further researchers, they can apply this research as reference for similar studies with different subjects and method.
