Abstract
PlasticOptical Fiber (POF) merupakan media transmisi yang digunakan untuk keperluan akses data, suara, dan video (tripleplay) dengan kecepatan tinggi yang tersambung ke rumah. Salah satu permasalahan yang tidak dapat dicegah pada jaringan serat optik adalah adanya rugi-rugi bengkokan atau macrobending. Rugi-rugi macrobending menyebabkan perubahan lintasan pada penjalaran cahaya di dalam serat optik. Perubahan tersebut akanmemberikan dampak terhadap kinerja sistem komunikasi serat optik. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan kajian secara eksperimen tentang pengaruh rugi-rugi macrobending terhadap Bit ErrorRate (BER) dan eyepatternpada POF jenis step indexmultimode. Besar rugi-rugi macrobending dipengaruhi oleh diameter dan jumlah bengkokan yang tersusun dalam bentuk lilitan yang digunakan. Hasil eksperimen menunjukkan bahwa pada diameter bengkokan 14-20 mm dengan satu lilitan, nilai BERadalah nol, noise margin adalah 61,94% - 64,73%, timingjitteradalah 2,15% - 2,91%, dan bit rate31,928 - 31,99 kbps. Pengaruh rugi-rugi macrobending naik secara signifikan pada criticaldiameter12 mm, yaitu nilai BER naik menjadi 6,28x10-4, noise margin turun menjadi 38,69%, timingjitter naik menjadi 31,89%, dan bit rateturun menjadi 31,397 kbps. Data tidak dapat ditransmisikan untuk diameter bengkokan 10 mm karena rugi-rugi yang terlalu besar.
English Abstract
Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) is used as transmission media in home networking. One of the unavoidable problems in optical fiber network is the macrobending loss. Macrobending losses cause changes in the light trajectory of the optical fiber. Such changes would have an impact on the system performance. The experiment of the effect of macrobending losses to the Bit Error Rate (BER) and eye pattern on POF step index multimode are done in this research. Macrobending losses were affected by the bending diameters and number of turns used. The experiment results showed that the effect of macrobending losses on bending diameter of 14-20 mm was low. The BER was zero, the noise margin were 61,94% up to 64,73%,the timing jitter were 2,15% up to2,91%, and the bit rate were 31,928 kbps up to 31,99 kbps. The effect of macrobending loss increased significantly on critical diameter of 12 mm. TheBER increased to 6,28x10-4, the noise margin decreased to 38,69%, the timing jitter increased to 31,89%, and the bit rate decreased to 31,397 kbps. When the bending diameter reached 10 mm, the data signal could not be transmitted due to large losses.
