Abstract
Karies merupakan masalah kesehatan gigi yang kejadiannya semakin meningkat. Karies adalah penyakit multifaktorial, antara lain disebabkan oleh faktor host, mikroorganisme, substrat, dan faktor waktu. Streptococcus mutans merupakan bakteri yang berperan dalam proses karies. Streptococcus mutans merupakan salah satu bakteri flora normal rongga mulut namun bakteri ini akan menjadi patogen bila jumlahnya terus meningkat dan menyebabkan karies. Upaya pengendalian aktivitas Streptococcus mutans adalah dengan bahan antibakteri dari alam, salah satunya adalah daun pare. Daun pare (Momordica charantia L.) mempunyai senyawa flavonoid, saponin, triterpenoid, dan alkaloid dengan berbagai mekanisme antibakteri. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bahwa ekstrak etanol daun pare (Momordica charantia L.) memiliki efek sebagai antibakteri terhadap Streptococcus mutans secara in vitro. Ekstrak daun pare (Momordica charantia L.) dibuat dengan metode maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%. Penelitian ini merupakan eksperimental laboratorik dengan metode difusi sumuran untuk mendapatkan diameter zona hambat pada konsentrasi 0%, 3,125%, 6,25%, 12,5%, 25%, 50%, 100%. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah One way ANOVA, Korelasi Pearson, dan Regresi. Hasil uji statistik menunjukkan bahwa semakin tinggi konsentrasi ekstrak etanol daun pare maka semakin luas diameter zona hambat yang terjadi pada media tumbuh Streptococcus mutans. Berdasarkan penelitian ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak etanol daun pare (Momordica charantia L.) mempunyai efek sebagai antibakteri terhadap Streptococcus mutans secara in vitro.
English Abstract
Dental caries is health problem which increasingly happens. Dental caries is a multifactorial disease, caused by host, microorganism, substract and time. Streptococcus mutans has a role in the caries process. Streptococcus mutans is one of flora normal bacterial in oral cavity, but this will be pathogenic bacteria if the number continue increase and can cause caries. Efforts to control Streptococcus mutans are to use antibacterial agents from nature, one of these is pare leaf. Pare leaf (Momordica charantia L.) has flavonoids, saponins, triterpenoids, and alkaloids that have different antimicrobial action. The purpose of this study is to prove that the ethanol extract of pare leaf (Momordica charantia L.) as an antibacterial agent against Streptococcus mutans in vitro. Pare leaf (Momordica charantia L.) extract is made by maceration method using ethanol 96%. This is a laboratory experimental study using well diffusion method to find zone inhibitory. The used concentration of the ethanol extract of pare leaf are 0%, 3,125%, 6,25%, 12,5%, 25%, 50%, 100%. The date was analysed used with One way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and Regression. The statistical result shows the higher the ethanol extract of pare leaf concentration the wide diameter of zona inhibitory in the media of Streptococcus mutans. The conclusion from this experiment is the ethanol extract of pare leaf (Momordica charantia L.) have effects as an antibacterial against Streptococcus mutans in vitro.
