Ekawati, EndahMuspita (2017) Perbedaan Asupan Serat Pada Wanita Usia Subur Kelompok Obesitas Dan Normal-Weight Obesity (NWO) Di Kota Malang. Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.

Abstract

English Abstract

Obesity is one of the risk factors of degenerative diseases, such as metabolic disease, cardiovascular disease and malignancy disease. In fact, Indonesian adult women who are above 18 years old tend to be obese. They are required to measure body fat percentage (%BF) besides BMI, in order to assess the nutritional status. The measurement can be used to identify a condition namely Normal Weight Obesity (NWO). NWO is defined as a normal BMI around 18.5-24.9, with excessive %BF more than 30%. Unhealthy lifestyle and dietary habits are the cause of the increasing of body fat percentage. In order to prevent the increasing of body fat percentage so that degenerative diseases can be prevented as well, fiber should be consumed in the right portion since fiber is able to control body weight and prevent the accumulation of adipose tissue. This study aims to determine differences differences of fiber intake among women reproductive age categorized as obesity and NWO in Malang. This observational cross sectional study was conducted during September 2015 to January 2016 by selecting 74 women reproductive age in Malang as the respondents with purposive sampling. Fiber intake was assessed using single 24h-recall method. Data obtained were then analyzed using Nutrisurvey 2007 and statistically tested with Independent T-Test using SPSS 16. The result of the analysis showed that the average of fiber intake in the obesity group was 7.64(6.47–8.91) gram and in NWO group was 7.72(6.28–9.32) gram that less than daily fiber intake recommendation. In addition, according to Independent T-Test, there were no significant differences of fiber intake among women reproductive age in obesity group and NWO group in Malang.
