Abstract

Kosakata adalah salah satu unsur terpenting dalam belajar bahasa Inggris. Penguasaan kosakata dapat membantu siswa untuk memperoleh empat kemampuan bahasa Inggris: berbicara, membaca, menulis, dan mendengarkan. Agar berhasil mengusai kosakata, siswa harus mempunyai motivasi yang tinggi dalam belajar bahasa Inggris. Siswa kelas 1 di Al-Hamid Malang memiliki masalah dalam belajar kosakata. Mereka medapatkan kesulitan dan kurang termotivasi dalam belajar kosakata. Di samping itu, guru bahasa Inggris menghadapi hambatan untuk menciptakan sebuah proses pembelajaran yang menyenangkan dikarenakan fasilitas sekolah yang kurang. Berdasarkan masalah tersebut, pengembang mengembangkan kadas nakal board game sebagai media mengajar kosakata untuk siswa kelas 1 SMP. Penelitian ini menggunakan model penelitian R&D yang dikemukakan oleh Borg dan Gall. Model penelitian R&D tersebut terdiri dari 6 tahapan: need analyses, planning, product development, try out, final revision, and final product. Peneliti menggunakan kuesioner dan lembar validasi sebagai instrument peneleitian. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah ahli media, ahli isi dan siswa kelas 1 Mts. Al-Hamid Malang. Kedua ahli memvalidasi apakah media dan isinya sesuai untuk siswa kelas 1 SMP atau tidak, sedangkan siswa sendiri diminta untuk memainkan dan memberi respon terhadap media tersebut. Data dalam penelitian ini dianalisis secara kualitatif. Bedasarkan hasil analisis data, hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa media telah valid dan sangat bagus. Respon dari ahli media dan isi, media tersebut sudah dapat diterapkan dalam mengajar kosakata untuk siswa kelas 1 SMP. Respon dari murid, media tersebut menarik dan mudah untuk dimainkan. Media tersebut memotivasi dan membantu mereka dalam belajar kosakata. Peneliti menyarankan kepada siswa dan guru bahasa Inggris untuk mengimplementasikan kadas nakal dalam pembelajaran kosakata. Untuk peneliti selanjutnya, peneliti menyarankan kadas nakal board game dikembangkan untuk materi dan level siswa yang berbeda.

English Abstract

Vocabulary is one of the most important elements in learning English. Vocabulary mastery can help students to acquire four English skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. To get successful in vocabulary mastery, students should high motivation in learning English. The first year students of Mts. Al-Hamid Malang had problem in learning vocabulary. They have difficulties and less motivated in learning vocabulary. Besides, the English teacher faced an obstacle of creating an interesting teaching and learning process because of the school’s facilitation. Based on the problem, the researcher aimed to facilitate a supporting media by developing kadas nakal board game to teach vocabulary for the first year students of junior high school. The study used research and development model which is proposed by Borg and Gall (1989). The model consists of six phases: need analyses, planning, product development, try out, final revision, and final product. The researcher used questionnaire and validation checklist as the instrument of this study. The sources of data in this study were media expert, content expert, and the first year students of junior high school at Mts. Al-Hamid Malang. The experts were asked to validate kadas nakal board game whether the media and the content were appropriate for the first years students of junior high school students or not, whereas students were asked to play kadas nakal board game and to give response after playing it. The data result was analyzed qualitatively. Based on the result of data analyses, the data showed that the media was valid and very good. From the media and content expert’s response in validation checklist, it could be applied in teaching vocabulary for the first year students. From students’ response in try out and questionnaire, the media was interesting and easy to play. It motivates and helps them to learn vocabulary. The researcher suggests students and English teacher to implement kadal nakal board game because it can make the teaching and learning vocabulary easily and in a fun way. For future researchers, it is suggested to develop kadal nakal board game for other material and student’s grade.
