Abstract

Membaca adalah hal yang penting dalam pembelajaran karena itu merupakan suatu faktor penting dalam mengembangkan kemampuan setiap individu dan juga hal penting dalam kegiatan pembelajaran di dalam kelas. Siswa memerlukan strategi membaca untuk mengatasi masalah demi mencapai pemahaman dalam membaca bagi siswa lelaki dan perempuan. Mengacu pada Keshavarz & Ashtarian (2008) salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi proses dalam membaca adalah tentang pemahaman tentang bacaan itu sendiri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari jenis – jenis strategi dalam membaca antara siswa laki - laki dan perempuan di kelas 11 Ipa 3 SMA Laboratorium UM Malang. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif yang sesuai dengan riset. Data dari penelitian ini diperoleh dengan menggunakan kuisioner dari Mokhtari dan Sheorey (2002), yaitu SORS (Survey of Reading Strategies). Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa laki - laki dan perempuan di kelas 11 Ipa 3. Hasil menunjukan bahwa penggunaan semua strategi membaca pada siswa perempuan termasuk ke dalam level tinggi dengan nilai rata – rata 3.51, dan siswa laki – laki ke dalam level sedang dengan nilai 3.4. Itu berarti siswa perempuan selalu menggunakan strategi membaca sementara siswa laki - laki kadang - kadang menggunakan strategi membaca. Mengenai betapa pentingnya strategi dalam membaca para siswa harus bisa menerapkan staretegi membaca dalam process pembelajaran, sehingga mereka akan mendapat banyak pengetahuan dari membaca. Untuk peneliti selanjutnya diharapkan dapat melakuakn penelitian yang spesifik dan lebih luas untuk memperoleh hasil yang berbeda.

English Abstract

Reading is a good thing in study because it is a factor of great importance in individual development and the most important activity in classroom. The students need reading strategies in order to overcome the problem to gain reading comprehension. Reading comprehension of each person are different. The different gender also infuences reading comprehension for female and male students in getting understanding. According to Keshavarz and Ashtarian (2008), one important factor that affects the process of reading and consequently the process of comprehension is the reader text variable. Therefore, this study is aimed at finding out the kinds of reading strategies between male and female students of 11th Science Three at SMA Laboratorium UM Malang. This study used descriptive quantitative approach dealing with survey research. The data of the study were collected by using questionnaire named Survey of Reading Strategies (SORS) designed by Mokhtari and Sheorey (2002). The samples of this study are the male and female students of 11th Science Three. The result revealed that the use of overall reading strategies for female students fell into high level with mean score 3.51 while male students fell into medium level with mean score 3.4. It means that female students usually use reading strategies and male students sometime used reading strategies during reading process. Regarding to the importance of reading strategy, the students have to apply reading strategies in reading process, so they will get a lot knowledge from reading. For the next researchers, they should make specific research or wider research related to find the different results.
