Abstract
Penempatan suatu alat ortodonti di dalam mulut dapat meningkatkan jumlah biofilm dan prevalensi bakteri kariogenik serta bakteri penyebab penyakit periodontal. Untuk itu dibutuhkan usaha pencegahan yaitu kontrol plak. Kontrol plak yang sederhana, aman, dan sering dilakukan serta efektif adalah menyikat gigi. Pemakai ortodonti cekatdianjurkan untuk memakai sikat gigi ortodonti untuk membantu penyingkiran plak disekitar bracket. Namun, masih banyak pemakai ortodonti cekat yang menggunakan sikat gigi non-ortodonti. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perbedaan efektifitas antara penggunaan sikat gigi ortodonti dengan sikat gigi non-ortodonti dengan metode Bass terhadap akumulasi plak pemakai ortodonti cekat . Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah rancangan eksperimental ulang atau pre and posttest design. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan teknik purposive sampling, diambil sebagai sampel sesuai kriteria inklusi didapatkan sampel sebanyak 40 orang untuk kelompok pemakai ortodonti cekat. Variabel penelitian adalah indeks plak sebelum dan sesudah menyikat gigi menggunakan sikat gigi ortodonti dan non-ortodonti, diukur menggunakan metode Loe and Silnes dengan bantuan disclosing agent. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terjadi penurunan indeks plak pada penggunaan sikat gigi ortodonti dan non-ortodonti. Analisis data menggunakan uji t tidak berpasangan menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat perbedaan bermakna pada penurunan indeks plak antara sikat gigi ortodonti dan non-ortodonti (p>0,05). Kesimpulan pada penelitian ini yaitu penggunaan sikat gigi ortodonti dan non ortodonti dengan metode bass memiliki kemampuan yang sama dalam menurunkan indeks plak pada pengguna ortodonti cekat
English Abstract
The placement of an orthodontic appliance in the mouth can increase the amount of bio film and the prevalence of cario genic bacteria and the bacteria that cause periodontal disease. That requires that prevent ion efforts plaque control. Brushing teeth is simple, safe and effective way is often performed to plaque control. Users of fixed orthodontic care encouraged to wear orthodontic toothbrush to help removal of plaque around the bracket. However, there are still many users who use a non-orthodontic toothbrush. The purpose of this study is to determine the difference in effectiveness between the uses of orthodontic toothbrush with non-orthodontic toothbrush with Bass method for plaque accumulation in the fixed orthodontic users in PSPDG FKUB Malang. This type of research is experimental designs reset or pre and posttest design. Sampling was done by purposive sampling technique, sampled according inclusion criteria obtained a sample of 40 people for fixed orthodontic user group. The research variables were plaque index before and after brushing teeth with orthodontic and non-orthodontic toothbrushes, measured using the Loeand Silnes methods with help of disclosing agent. The results showed that the plaque index decline in the use of an orthodontic and non-orthodontic toothbrushes. Data analysis using unpaired test showed that there was no significant difference in there duction of plaque index between orthodontic tooth brush and non-orthodontic (p>0.05). The conclusion of this research is the use of an orthodontic and non-orthodontic toothbrush with bass method has the same ability in reducing plaque index in fixed orthodontic users in PSPDG FKUB Malang.
