Abstract
Karies gigi merupakan penyakit dengan prevalensi yang tinggi jika dibandingkan dengan penyakit gigi dan mulut lainnya di Indonesia. Karies gigi merupakan suatu penyakit multifaktorial. Ada empat faktor utama yang memegang peranan yaitu faktor host, agen atau mikroorganisme, substrat atau diet, dan waktu. Faktor substrat dapat mempengaruhi pembentukan plak. Setelah dihidrolisasi oleh amilase saliva, gula menyediakan substrat untuk mikroorganisme, yang dapat menurunkan pH plak dan saliva. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbandingan konsumsi makanan dan minuman manis terhadap indeks karies siswa kelas 5 SDN Sumbersari 3 dengan SD Brawijaya Smart School Kota Malang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode observasional analitik dengan desain case control. Dilakukan pengisian kuesioner tentang konsumsi makanan dan minuman manis diikuti pemeriksaan klinis untuk menentukan indeks karies siswa (def-t dan DMF-T). Data dianalisis dengan uji chi-square dan dilanjutkan dengan uji korelasi dan uji regresi. Hasil uji chi-square menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan antara konsumsi makanan low-kariogenik dan high-kariogenik dengan indeks DMF-T SDN Sumbersari 3. Hasil uji korelasi dan uji regresi menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan korelasi sedang antara konsumsi makanan dan minuman manis baik di SDN Sumbersari 3 maupun SD Brawijaya Smart School. Dari hasil kuesioner dan pemeriksaan klinis karies gigi siswa dapat disimpulkan bahwa konsumsi makanan dan minuman manis serta indeks karies siswa kelas 5 SDN Sumbersari 3 lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan SD Brawijaya Smart School Kota Malang.
English Abstract
Dental caries is a disease which prevalence is high when compared with other oral health’s disease in Indonesia. Dental caries is a multi factorial disease. There are four main factors that play their role, there are host, agent or microorganism, substrate or diet, and time. Substrate factors can influence the formation of plaque. After hydrolyzed by salivary amylase, sugar provide substrate for microorganisms of the oral cavity, which can lower the pH of plaque and saliva. This study aimed to compare sweet foods and beverages consumption against caries index of 5th grade students SDN Sumbersari 3 with Brawijaya Smart School Malang. This study used analytic observational with case control design. Students did the questionnaire about consumption of sweet foods and beverages, followed by a clinical examination to determine dental caries index (def-t and DMF-T). Data were analyzed by chi-square test and followed by correlation and regression test. The results of chi-square test showed a significant difference between low-cariogenic foods and high-cariogenic foods consumption with DMF-T index in SDN Sumbersari 3. The results of correlation and regression test showed that there is a moderate correlation between the consumption of sweet foods and beverages in both SDN Sumbersari 3 and Brawijaya Smart School. From the results of the questionnaire and dental caries clinical examination for students can be concluded that sweet foods and beverages consumption also caries index of 5th grade students of SDN Sumbersari 3 higher than Brawijaya Smart School Malang.
