Abstract

English Abstract

A dolescence is a critical period that will determine the quality of future generations. Young women, including vulnerable groups who suffer from anemia due to menstruation each month and is currently in its infancy. This cross sectional study aimed to determine the relationship between the intake of iron (Fe), inhibitor s and enhancer s (vitamin C) with hemoglobin levels in adolescent girls at SMAN 1 Panarukan (n = 84). The data intake of Fe and enhancer s obtained from semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire, intake of inhibitor s obtained from food frequency questionnaire, and hemoglobin concentration were measured by using Spektrophotometry. Data were analyzed by using the Spearman Rank correlation, and logistic regression. This study Indicates that 8.3% subjects had Hb < 12 mg / d l. A total of 83.3% of subjects had intake s Fe > 77% RDA (enough), 95.2% had a sufficient intake of vitamin C, and 58.3% are consuming Fe absorption inhibitor s. Spearman test showed hemoglobin levels was a correlation with intake of iron (r = 0.559, p < 0.0001) and vitamin C (r = 0.742, p < 0.0001), but no correlation with the inhibitor intake (r = -0.080, p = 0.469). Besides Fe intake associated with vitamin C intake (r = 0.500, p <0.0001) but not associated with intake inhibitor (r = -0.140, p = 0.203). Logistic regression showed that the factors that most influence the Hb is Fe intake ( p = 0.026). The conclusion is the higher Fe and vitamin C intake can improve hemoglobin levels. This study supports the importance of nutrition education for the prevention and control of anemia young girls.
