Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat perbedaan perspective taking pada kondisi false belief dan true belief. Perspective taking adalah kemampuan untuk mengambil perspektif orang lain dengan memahami pikiran, perasaan, dan keinginan orang tersebut. Desain penelitian ini menggunakan within-subject experimental design dengan menggunakan 73 partisipan remaja. Terdapat dua instrument yang digunakan yaitu changes of location paper pencil sandbox task dan word search. Partisipan diberi changes of location paper pencil sandbox task dengan dua kondisi, yakni kondisi false belief dimana antara partisipan dan orang lain memiliki pengetahuan yang setara dan kondisi true belief dimana antara partisipan dan orang lain memiliki pengetahuan yang setara. Bias/kesalahan mengestimasi menggambarkan akurasi perspective taking, yang mana semakin kecil bias maka semakin baik kemampuan perspective taking seseorang. Pengujian statistik terhadap kondisi false belief dan true belief menggunakan uji Wilcoxon Signed Rank untuk sampel besar dengan taraf kepercayaan 95%. Hasil uji statistik menunjukkan bahwa nilai p=0.000 (p<0.001) yang berarti bahwa terdapat perbedaan kemampuan perspective taking yang signifikan antara kondisi false belief (M= 0.754, SD= 0.347) dan true belief (M=0.328, SD=0.257). Perspective taking pada kondisi false belief diketahui lebih sulit dibandingkan true belief lantaran meminta partisipan untuk menyeimbangkan antara pengetahuan yang dimilikinya dengan pengetahuan orang lain yang salah. Remaja menghasilkan bias yang lebih besar ketika dihadapkan dengan kondisi false belief daripada ketika dihadapkan dengan kondisi true belief, artinya bahwa remaja masih mungkin untuk memiliki kemampuan perspective taking yang kurang baik dalam memahami orang yang tidak memiliki pengetahuan yang setara dengannya.

English Abstract

The aim of this research was to portray the difference Perspective taking on the condition of false belief and true belief. Perspective taking is the ability to take the perspective of others by understanding the person's thoughts, feelings, and desires. Within-subject experimental design was used with 73 adolescent participants. They were given two instruments such as; changes of location paper pencil sandbox task and word search. Participants were assigned changes of location paper pencil sandbox task with two conditions, namely the condition of false belief where the participants and others have equivalent knowledge and the true belief condition in which between participants and others have equal knowledge. The bias / error estimates illustrate the perspective taking accuracy, whereby the smaller bias indicates the better perspective taking ability. Statistical testing of false belief and true belief using Wilcoxon Signed Rank test for large sample with 95% confidence level. The result of statistical test shows that p = 0.000 (p <0.001) which means that there is significant difference in perspective taking ability between false belief condition (M = 0.754, SD = 0.347) and true belief (M = 0.328, SD = 0.257). Perspective taking on false belief is known to be more difficult than true belief because it asks participants to balance their knowledge with the knowledge of others that are wrong. Adolescents produce greater bias when confronted with false belief than true belief conditions, meaning that adolescents are still able to have poor perspective taking capabilities in understanding people with unequal knowledge.
