Abstract
Film adalah bagian dari produk kebudayaan yang memperkenalkan karya-karya sastra. Ini adalah tentang sebuah cerita atau peristiwa, yang direkam dengan menggunakan sebuah kamera dan ditampilkan di TV atau teater. Cerita dalam film dibedakan oleh genre seperti drama, musikal, romantis, sebuah biografi, dan lain sebagainya. The Doors adalah sebuah film dengan genre biografi atau sejarah yang menceritakan tentang kisah hidup pentolan band the Doors, Jim Morrison. Penelitian ini menggunakan aktualisasi diri sebagai teori karena teori tersebut menjelaskan tentang motivasi alami manusia dalam pemenuhan potensi mereka. Penelitian ini memfokuskan pada faktor apa saja yang mempengaruhi Jim Morrison dalam mengaktualisasikan dirinya, dilihat dari teori kepribadian Carl Rogers. Carl Rogers menjelaskan bahwa setiap manusia memiliki motif dasar untuk mengaktualisasikan diri mereka, untuk memenuhi potensi mereka dan mencapai kesehatan psikologis. Dalam rangka memuaskan motif dasar mereka, manusia membutuhkan lingkungan yang menyediakan mereka dengan penerimaan penuh (penerimaan positif tanpa syarat), dan empati (didengarkan dan dipahami). Jika begitu, mereka akan mengembangkan diri mereka sebagaimana mestinya. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa Jim Morrison sudah berhasil dalam mencapai aktualisasi dirinya, dan faktor yang mempengaruhi Jim Morrison dalam mengaktualisasikan dirinya adalah penerimaan dari orang lain. Hal itu terlihat dalam film ketika ia mendapat penolakan dai orang-orang dalam kelas film di UCLA, setelah hal itu Jim mulai lebih serius dalam mendapatkan penerimaan dari orang lain. Jim Morrison akan menjauh dari orang-orang yang mencoba menghambatnya, karena yang ia butuhkan hanyalah diterima secara penuh untuk semua yang ia lakukan, agar ia bisa dengan bebas dalam mengeksplorasi dan mengekspresikan potensinya.
English Abstract
Film is a part of the cultural product that introduces the literary works. It is about a story or events, that recorded by a camera and appeared on TV or theater. The story of film is differentiated by genres, such as drama, musical, romance, biography, and etc. The Doors, a biographical or historical film by Oliver Stone, that exposes about the life story of the Doors frontman, Jim Morrison. This study applies self-actualization as theory because it explains about humans’ nature motivations toward fulfillment of their potentials. This study focused on the influential factors within Jim Morrison in order to achieve his self-actualization, viewed from Carl Rogers’s development of the personality theory. Carl Rogers explains that human has their basic motive to actualize them self, to fulfill their potentials and achieve the highest level of psychological health. In order to achieve their basic motive, they need an environment that provides them with acceptance (being seen with unconditional positive regards), and empathy (being listened and understood). If that so, they will develop them self as they should. The result of this study shows that Jim Morrison already successful in order to reach his self-actualization and the influential factor within Jim Morrison’s self-actualization is the acceptance from others. It is shown in the movie when he got a rejection of people in the movie class at UCLA, after that he becomes more seriously in receiving an acceptance from others. He will stay away from the people who try to hamper him because he just needs a full acceptance for what he doing, so he can explore and expressing his highest potentials.
